Redfish today

Redfish today - 11/14/20 01:21 AM

Hate to make a post without good Texas style food, but just to let you know what’s coming. Went out today and hammered big redfish. 12 reds and a drum weighed about 100#, and I got about 20# of filets to bring home. Pretty awesome right there. Just doing drinks and Chefs Salad after a long day on the water

My favorite anyway you cook them. I even like the bits and pieces in ceviche.

Fishing out of Matagorda in West Bay. One of my favorite places when the wife and kids and I lived here. I love reds, trout, and flounder fishing.

You can stew up the beans and throat for stock, pick out the meat and make a great fish soup.

Yep. Fried throats are the best part of the fish. Fried tails are also awesome, on the smaller fish.
Use the carcass to make fish stock.

Three more limits of big redfish, and lots of tasty throats. Man, my cast iron is gonna be busy deep frying. As soon as my kids learn I have fresh fish we will have company!!! smile

You got lucky on the weather. I hard north wind is in the forecast today. The wind and well needed rain just started for me. I had to cancel my morning walk. You would have had whitecaps in your live well.

Another fabulous day today, even with the heavy winds out of the NNE. We went and hid in the weeds on the sloughs and got 3 amazing limits. Nine fish weighed almost 90#. Think I have enough filets and throats for a while!!

I fished saltwater for over 40 years, but never caught reds this well, even on my best day.

Re: Redfish today - 11/17/20 01:56 AM

He’s older and wiser than me. He filets my redfish when we visit. When he comes to Idaho Falls, I bone out and back pack his elk!! I think I’m getting the worst of the deal. smile

The area you used to always fish is also not known for good numbers of redfish. At certain times at certain places, yes but not the norm.

You can travel either North or South and find better habitat for reds, and consistently catch limits....along with limits of trout.
