Picadillo

Picadillo - 06/05/20 02:57 PM

with all this social distancing, I got a hankering for some picadillo the past few days, so after a bit of searching for various recipes, I combined several to make my own. It came out great but a little soupy, so the beef broth and/or tomato sauce needs to be cut back a bit. I also didn't have any type of peppers, so it is not spicy (a couple of chopped jalapenos would have taken it over the top)

1 lb ground venison
1/2 large sweet onion (chopped)
2 medium potatoes (chopped)
2 TBS chopped garlic
2 TBS Cumin
1 TS smoked paprika
1-1/2 cup beef broth
1 small can tomato sauce
2-3 TBS flour
salt & pepper to taste

in a large skillet, put enough oil to lightly cover the bottom over medium heat. Add chopped onion to saute for a couple of minutes, add chopped garlic and continue to saute another minute. Add ground venison. cook until browned, drain (if needed). Stir in flour. Add chopped potatoes, beef broth, tomato sauce, Cumin, paprika and stir well. bring to a light boil and reduce heat to simmer. Let simmer uncovered to reduce liquid (about 30 minutes). Salt & pepper to taste

Looks great! One of my favorites. I made some last night myself!

I grew up on it but that's not what my mom called it, it was merely hamburger hash ...

When I do get breakfast tacos, that is usually what I order and most don't have as much tomato flavor as mine turned out with last night. I might dial back on the tomato sauce the next time or more potatoes/meat.
