Biscuits & Chocolate Gravy

Biscuits & Chocolate Gravy - 09/20/19 05:18 PM

My Granny B’s recipe, I grew up on this stuff. My Granny and Grandpa both passed when I was little. My Grandpa was a commercial fisherman, he made his living with a gig and a homemade boat. Coleman lanterns on the bow, fished every night the weather would allow. Granny helped my Grandpa clean fish, and she worked for years heading shrimp at what used to be Gulf King. They never had much money, but took good care of what they did have and there was always love in that house. As much as I’ve always loved fresh fried fish & shrimp, this meal was always my favorite at Granny’s house.

First, make some biscuits. Our tradition is Bisquick biscuits, just add water and butter them when done.

Then the gravy...

Add some crispy peppered bacon and enjoy. Always brings back memories.

Thanks for looking.

Looks good. Never heard of that type of gravy but I would give it a try

It’s pretty sweet, kind of like a thinner/warm chocolate pudding.

Did your mamma ever make stuffed flounder when you were growing up? Should as if you had all of the ingredients.

She sure did. Stuffed & baked, also battered in seasoned cornmeal and fried whole (smaller ones that would fit in the pan).

Have you got any idea of the recipe? What & how did she add the chocolate?

You bet. This is her recipe. It’s pretty sweet but can always back off of the sugar.

My grandma did the same. But gravy was not as “chocolatey”.

Eat it all the time growing up. Biscuits and butter with hot choc gravy. My grandkids love it too.
