Hamburger Helper

Hamburger Helper - 07/27/18 05:30 PM

I have a neighbor who I visit with on my afternoon rounds. His wife is out of town on occasions. I asked him what he was doing for dinner. He always replies Hamburger Helper. Haven't had it in years and don't remember the different varieties. I walked down that aisle in HEB today. Too many for me to consider.

Do you ever? Which one?

The grandkids will eat it. I cannot. Too salty.

I've never cared for it.

the aldi's brand h.h.'s are a lot better than the wally world or
the name brand h.h.'s

i get the beef stroganoff, and every now and then the cheesy beef
macaroni whatever-it's-called, although i don't like it as well as
the beef strog.

there's times i just make up a box of macaroni and cheese and mix
in a pound of browned beef and a can of corn and a can of peas.
black pepper and mix it and it's as good as anything.

I like the lasagna version, but we dress it up some.

Dressed up a little with diced onion & maybe bell or jalapenos, they can be pretty good. top with some grated cheddar.

Beef flavor, add a small can of mushrooms while browning the meat. About 3 minutes before it's finished simmering, stir in 8oz sour cream and heat through. Much better than their stroganoff flavor, which has a wang to it IMO.

Or the original cheesy variety. But I haven't had either in years.

Cheeseburger Macaroni, Beef Noodle, Beef Stroganoff, and a potato one that I can't remember the exact name. Good stuff with ground venison. Was a single parent's staple when my daughter was little.

When it first came out it was pretty good, you added water to the mix. Then they changed the recipe and now you add milk and it's just not the same.

My wife makes a homemade version, one of those dishes that is close to what she made the time before, but still is always different.

It's good! I put it better than Manwich, but not as good as a McRib.

Stroganoff, I use half the meat (1/2 lb) with a scoop of sour cream after it sits.

Our version of a hamburger helper is to fry up a pound of ground meat with a package of bacon that has been chopped up. Then mix in a Mac & Cheese package with a can of Rotel chilis. Sometimes we add a canned of chopped tomatoes.

Put ground venison in with the HH, it tastes great.
