Re: Jalapeņo Ranch Style Beans - 03/23/18 03:53 AM

I like making them with a lot of bacon and some jalapeņos (or green chiles if they are in season).

I add a couple of tablespoons of a chili seasoning mix to my beans along with a can or 2 of tomato sauce to make my own version of ranch style beans. Add pickled sliced jalapenos after they are cooked. Not quite the same taste but close enough for us.

I was on a deer lease with an old boy one day when heading home was saying I was going to start a pot of chili. Dude went on this soap box about how people get too wound up about chili and if he wants chili he just buys a can. eeks333

I woukda took him outside but he was a frogger in those swamps DC talks about.

They made Wolf Brand Chili at Quaker oats at Illinois & Westmoreland up until around late 80's / early 90's then they moved them & Pork n beans somewhere up north and brought in Snapple and Gatorade. The painting company I worked for back then had the maintenance painting contract, luckily, I came in towards the end of the Chili & Pork n beans, the place smelled much better with Snapple & Gatorade. What I never understood is, where the heck was the Oatmeal?
Love me some Jalapeno Ranch Style Beans, great side with a steak & tater. Also like to smoosh em up and heat up in a pan to have as refried beans.

It's more enjoyable to make my own beans. Taste better, healthier and you know exactly what went into them.

Re: Jalapeņo Ranch Style Beans - 03/23/18 02:44 PM

I always start with canned beans when making baked beans. Nothing better than baked beans and coleslaw with barbecue. I have a pork butt that I plan to do soon. It's been too long.

Cook some groun venison in cast iron, add taco seasoning, mix in those beans, and sauteed white onions. Put all that in a Tupperware, take that, some tortillas, shredded cheese, and beer, and you have several meals ready to go. Reheats well on the camp fire , in a dutch oven, too.

ranch style beans or pork n beans are always good for a quick meal, depending on the beans, i make world famous beanie weenies or super world famous beanie weenies, neither have anything to do with chili. i do have some ron's chili from tulsa on the way though

Used to mix it with original kraft Mac n cheese (the box kind) as a kid... yum! Just about every campfire needs a can of ranch style beans cooking in the coals if you ask me up
