Looks as if you got the ninth through the twelfth ribs. That's one of the best looking eyes I've seen.

That is a great looking prime rib roast. How'd it taste and how did you prepare it?

Re: First attempt at prime rib - 12/31/17 01:56 AM

I deboned it and cooked the ribs separate. Coated in Olive oil. Seasoned with garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, crushed black pepper, rosemary and some thyme. Cooked it 2 hours at 225, bumped it to 275 for an hour and then to 400 for the last 1/2 hour on my Camp Chef Pellet Smoker. I used Mesquite pellets.

It was a 2 bone. That second picture is the bones. The dogs may get to gnaw on them tomorrow after I sample them. I bought it on sale at Krogers for $4.77 a pound. I have a better looking one left to cook. It's twice as big. 3 or 4 bone. I was experimenting with this one first. up

Yes sir, mighty fine job. I REALLY prefer the rib in, I with others believe it adds flavor, hence the cowboy rib eyes etc. Thats how I butcher half my steers and the other half is whole prime rib

up Bobby is damn good people! He's a crappie catching machine and though I've never had the privilege of hunting with him, I understand he's a pretty good wingshooter.

I guess I spoke a little soon. I have lurked over there since probably 2011 and never posted. I have the same user name over there though. Between the down low and thf, that is all my internet knows! Still cool to see a crossover!
