Crockpot stroganoff..

Crockpot stroganoff.. - 11/06/16 09:44 PM

I've made this a few times and it's a great fall meal, and it's simple.

We buy stew meat from Costco because it's usually about 5 pounds and they cut it in large chunks.

Anyhow..

Cut up a onion and put it in the crockpot.
Top with the meat uncooked, I use about 2.5 lbs.
Add 3 cans of Campbell's golden mushroom soup.
Add some fresh mushrooms
Salt, pepper, and garlic salt
And some worcheshire.

Cook on low for 8 hours, before serving drop a block of cream cheese in and let it melt.

I serve it over egg noodles.

Enjoy!

I also added about a cup of water in the mix to thin it down some.

We rarely use real plates here. In fact we just bought a big stack at Costco today. So my presentation will be lacking. cheers

This is the first Stroganoff recipe that I've ever seen that didn't use sour cream. This is a good thing as I do NOT like the taste of sour cream. I'm going to make this with vension. Thanks for posting.

I like it with the cream cheese better. We've also used dove breasts in lieu of stew meat, or venison, and turned out great.

Kev,

Do you put the fresh mushrooms in at the start?
Also, the 3 cans of soup, do you add 1 can of water per can of soup?

Just got back from the store and about to put this on.

Yeah, it looks good. Showed my sons the picture that Kev posted, both boys thought it would be ready for lunch. They were crushed when i told them it wouldn't be ready until tonight.

Kev,

That's a great dish made it two weeks ago at the lease and it was gone in 20m.

Really good for a cold nights supper!

Re: Crockpot stroganoff.. - 12/18/16 12:03 AM

Thanks Kev. It was as good as I thought. I fed my wife, me, and 5 hungry teenage boys who showed up right at serving time. This goes into the regular rotation of home meals.

Edit - The image doohickey aint working.
Double Edit - I got the picture add to work for me today.

Made this last night, but with Venison. Was incredible!
I also cheated a bit and made my own 'cream of mushroom' from scratch - w/ 1#fresh mushrooms/onion/celery/spices/LS.beef-stock.
(needed it to be gluten-free (kid) & low sodium (me) so everyone could partake).
My 'world travler' kid said this was gourmet-quality indeed...
Served over bed of gluten-free twirls:
(sorry- presentation was lacking, but we couldn't wait for sides to DIG-IN) up

Man when my dad buys a whole tenderloin who uses the left over pieces after cutting off steaks to make stroganoff, it's the best ever.
