I did that too for a long time but my issue was the cows, pigs, deer etc. were always curious and wanted to rub on my cameras so I'd find them pointing at the sky or ground and doing me no good.
That's why I decided to develop this.
This gives you some adjust-ability over baling wire also.
The shades do help with battery/camera life as well as keep the birds directly off the camera.
