Abilene eats - 06/23/21 05:46 PM
Headed there Friday and Saturday so we’re looking for a good place to eat Friday night and or Saturday for lunch that won’t break the bank with the family!

there was a guy that was telling me his favorite steak house was in Abilene; so much so that he would drive there from DFW a few times a month just to eat. Now I have to remember what the name of it is.....
Edit; I believe it is called the Beehive

They own another one in Abilene. It’s in old downtown. Great place and where I would go.

Beehive for prime rib.
They were also putting in a biscuit bar near acu. Not sure if it's open yet. They have a few in dfw and have great breakfast/brunch offering

These are above the reasonable price Perini Ranch south of Buffalo Gap, Beehive at 442 Cedar st, Lytle Land and Cattle, 1150 ES 11th, Sharon Allen's BBQ.
For reasonable, try Catfish Corner 7th and Treadaway, Los Arcos 1902 Ambler or Oscars on 351 and Buffalo Gap Road. for Mexican food. Betty Roses for BBQ, Joes Pizza at 7th and Treadaway, it has been awhile, but I liked their food and real reasonable. La Popular, makes good breakfast burritos, and have a Mexican plate.. McKay's Bakery, downtown on Cypress, they have a club sandwich that is good and you can get a great dessert.
There are 3 parks in the downtown area, Everman Park, N1st and Pine, Minter Park, N3rd and Cypress, and one by the Convention Center, no tables but they have park benches, sometimes we would grab fast food and take the grandchildren to them.

Didn't know that. Is it as good as the original?

Good place, but last time I went there a couple years ago they weren’t serving fresh meringue pie anymore. Something to do with health dept regs. That chocolate pie made it worth the stop for me, no pie no stop.

Perini Ranch may be average but you better have reservations

Agree
Beehive in Abilene is by far my favorite steakhouse in the Abilene area and really anywhere. I wouldn't call it cheap though for steak. The fillet is perfection IMO...
Beehive salad is great
The spinach artichoke appetizer with fried pita bread is unreal.
For a cafe style restaurant with very good prices Circa 1880 in Baird is great. Awesome burgers, patty melt, philly, catfish etc

Go the Jay's BBQ Shack at 602 S 11th St. I promise you will not be disappointed. They are only open Wednesday through Saturday for lunch.

If you want a no frills burger joint/drive in go to Larry’s. Don’t let the facade fool you. I thought it was a legit old school burger.

Out on the East loop? It’s been there a long time, they must be doing something right.
