Finally tried 407 BBQ

Finally tried 407 BBQ - 09/30/18 02:55 PM

The sliced brisket was very good, the BBQ sauce was good, the potato salad was almost as good as mine and the green beans were good. I thought $18 for a 1 meat 2 sides plate lunch with a soft drink was a bit pricey. And for the life of me I cannot figure out why they would only serve Mac & Cheese only Mon - Wed.
As good as it was I wouldn't travel that far from Grapevine to eat there again.

Do they have pulled pork on the menu?

Yes and it’s great.

Nothing beats Spring Creek BBQ for the quality, price, free bread, and ALL the sides you want - unlimited refills.

Spring Creek????? Surely you jest!

Quantity doesn't mean quality. By those standards Pancho's is great Mexican food.

Re: Finally tried 407 BBQ - 09/30/18 07:09 PM

I remain unimpressed with Spring Creek.

Re: Finally tried 407 BBQ - 09/30/18 07:46 PM

Haven't been to Spring Creek in a few years
but when I did it was always good and reasonable.

I know it's not off the beaten path, it is a chain
and I'll always choose Hutchins when I can.

Just saying it's not bad.

I think 407 is great. All bbq is way too expensive, but 407 at least has great taste. FYI, I've only had it frozen, then reheated. I am not a Turkey guy AT ALL, but 407 has the best Turkey I've ever had.

Yuck. The Spring Creeks and Dickey's of the world can barely be considered BBQ.

Word... You can't compare Saltgrass to Del Frisco's. Good food ain't cheap and it is better to enjoy with good company.

When my daughter says it is the best bbq she has ever had I can't argue. A sandwich is two meals for her here.

Thanks for the kind review...I think? I do appreciate you stopping by.

As for the M&C, I guess you saw the size of my kitchen (we're a little more than a shack right now). We make about 90lb of M&C at a time, and it's a huge pain. We limit the M&C to 30lb a day Mon-Wed. Our new place will have a much larger kitchen, and I have already purchased a 40 -gal tilt skillet which will allow us to make it more than once a week. If you ever do decide to make that long drive from Grapevine (after Jan 1), then we should have M&C on the menu.

Price for a 1 meat 2 side plate is $14.5 and will include approx 1/2lb meat.

Mr Oxner - yes, we have pulled pork every day, and we ship our meats as well.

Re: Finally tried 407 BBQ - 10/01/18 09:39 PM

Like erather, i’m a fan of Spring Creek BBQ. Pretty good stuff for a chain joint. As for cost, I don’t remember the last time I had cheap good BBQ. So I don’t mind paying what it takes for the good stuff, and 407 is the best I’ve had in many years. Lord, I’m hungry now....

Up our way, Kirby’s (now KK’s) is regarded as the good stuff and has been rated in the top 50 by Texas Monthly. It’s pretty good, but I’d drive 20 miles further for 407. Unfortunately, 407 is 135 miles away. Such is life...

If you like a stuffed baked potato, stop off at Woody’s at Centerville on I-45. Best I’ve found so far.

Woodys tater is good, but it pales next to a 407 tater.

Re: Finally tried 407 BBQ - 10/01/18 10:35 PM

Cast, i can’t order a 407 tater. If I’m there I will have to go with brisket and tater salad.

I am in these parts the go to guy when opinions about good BBQ is the subject. I don't eat BBQ often but when I do I prefer Blacks in NB or Heavys in Hondo.

Re: Finally tried 407 BBQ - 10/02/18 07:40 PM

We didn't get plates, but a meatloaf sandwich, chips, turkey stuffed baked potato, side of corn, and lb of turkey to go, no drinks for $42 and change. My daughter and I split the sandwich, wife ate what she wanted of the potato for lunch. We all ate a good meal of the left over potato and the turkey breast for supper. That's about $7 a piece, cheaper than fast food, but only 100 times better.

Re: Finally tried 407 BBQ - 10/02/18 07:48 PM

Yep. We can get four meals out of a baked tater. Same with a Boss Hog.

Re: Finally tried 407 BBQ - 10/03/18 11:39 PM

$14.50 aint bad if you getting 1/2pound of meat. Heck before they closed the Bakers Ribs here I was paying about $12 for a ham sammich, 2 sides that were room tempature, and some craft cola drink that tasted like piss. I did like their BBQ sauce though.

I haven’t eaten there but I did see the 407 BBQ ford with all of the decals going down 820 a few weeks ago when I was heading to DFW. Good looking rig.

We've had a lot of visitors since opening. Bud Kennedy & Trey Chapman last week, filmed a Jay Marks Foodie Friday event this week on Wednesday, and Daniel yesterday. We were too busy for me to visit and show him around, but he really liked the brisket again.

Re: Finally tried 407 BBQ - 02/23/19 03:36 AM

Wife and I stopped off at CJ’s in College Station for take out BBQ. It was pretty good, but not 407 level. The tater salad was mayo type and short on flavor. The Pinto beans were bland. They used to make them more flavorful but the old folks complained so they dialed them down. The brisket and chicken were very good. Good enough that we’ll keep stopping off there on the way home, but I wouldn’t brag on it and take folks there.
