Wire Hair Pointer Griffon

What are yalls thought on Griffons, Here in texas it can get hot have yall seen them struggle with the heat at all?

My buddy has one and it’s the best dog I’ve ever hunted with. They’re very versatile hunters and exceptional house pets. Really want to be part of the family. Tough to find a litter for and they’re expensive usually. He hasn’t ever mentioned any issues with heat being a problem and I doubt there is any more of an issue with heat than labs or any other wire haired dog, just pay attention and use common sense.

They do not do well anywhere being left outside away from the family. The older one is starting to struggle a bit on our 3 mile walks, but its more to her being old and having some health issues from getting hurt. In her prime she would go all day like the younger one does now. I mostly duck hunt and both have done well with the crappy trainer they have. I night know of a littler either coming up or just passed. I still get emails from the breeder I got my 2nd one from and I don't think I kept it. He is out of Missouri and I picked him up in Tulsa as another one was going there.

There is also a breeder in Fayetteville, Arkansas, which is where my friend got his. My understanding is there aren’t a ton of breeders in the country.

I have had 2 back in the day. Both loved to climb fences and dig. But they were great dogs. Live here in West Texas and neither had issues with weather, but they were both house dogs as well. My brother owns one in Idaho and has had a few over the years. They have really gone up in price since I last owned mine.

Small gene pool, unlikely to hunt in front of a buggy or quail rig . You are looking at a dog really only suitable for walk hunts.

we have 2 as well, a 5yo and 2yo. I dont think my wife will ever want another breed, and im sort of in the same camp. Our older dog is pretty soft, so i never did force fetch and he was also bought as a house dog as much as anything else. Hes a great blood tracker and he will point, but he will not hardly pick up birds. He also wont really go hunt with other dogs. If its just him and my younger one, they work well together. Now the younger one.....whole other story. He just turned 2. Scored perfect on his NAVHDA NA test and you can not stop him. He hunts none stop from birds or butterflies in the yard to flies in the house. Swims non stop in our pool for fun. Many people say grifs are close hunters, and that is generally true, but my younger will hunt a county away from me if i dont rein him in. He is a handful for sure. And like the others said, they are people dogs. They will not be happy outside in a kennel. They love to be with their family. All dogs are different of course, but thats a for sure grif trait. Generally goofy personalities. Super friendly. They arent cheap, and many breeders from what ive seen are selective on who they will even sell to because they want to keep good lines in the breed.
