Anyone have one? What can you tell me. I was supposed to get a Boykin spaniel but the breeder didn’t put me on the list in time and wouldn’t have a puppy till next year so I put a deposit down on a springer spaniel

I have hunted with Springers a few times with a guy that raised and trained the pups his pair had. The older dogs were as good as any bird dogs I have hunted with an the pups were just about as good as the older seasoned dogs at about 10 or 11 months old. Wish that man were still around to visit and talk to.

David Jones of Strong Dog kennels is a friend who trains Springers. Never saw a bad one.

Springer Rage is pretty rare and almost exclusively in the bench or show dogs. Make SURE you get a Field Bred Springer
2nd for David Jones
His dogs are not cheap but they are some of the best
He is just outside Victoria.
I know more than I should so if you want some opinions just PM me

Is Boykin to Springer an apple to apple change? I know Boykins love water but do Springers?

Springers will do all the same work a Lab will do and in most cases a bit faster, but they are not as tolerant of cold water.
Springers are masters of the field work and finding and flushing birds.
Boykins are usually a bit smaller but have a better coat for water work, They are a bit slower in the field
Either is a good choice for the guy who hunts everything.
Several years ago the Boykin organization was resisting joining the AKC....Smart move ! A show dog split is usually the result and is BAD for the dogs. Show breeding is usually the source of genetic / health issues .
