Help for Zorro

Help for Zorro - 07/12/20 03:22 PM

Meet Zorro. He was a stray at our church in Terrell that we took in. He has an injury on his right front leg where it appears to have been broken and healed with a huge knot on it. He came to us this way, so we don't actually know how he got it. I am reaching out to Dog owners on THF to see in anyone has had experience trying to fix something like this, or anything we might could do to help.

He limps on it most of the time and as you can see from the pic's his foot is now turned to the right. He can run on it if he wants to, however you can tell it is painful when he's done.

Had 2 Vets look at it and both think the only thing that can be done is to re brake and fuse the foot, which might be an option as the foot has a turn to the right. i would like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks in advance!!!

It would be a lot easier on him to go with a amputation. We always hate the thought of it, but dogs adapt rather quickly. He will be back to running, and having fun quicker, than if you go with the re-break, and fuse.

I would leave it alone. Let it calcify over time and see how much it bothers him. You can always amputate if it gets worse. You can't put it back on once it's gone. Nature is pretty amazing and animals have a way of adapting. My border collie mix had a bad break. The vet and I decided to let it heal and if needed we could always amputate later if it didn't heal. His leg is shorter than the others and he's not as fast as he once was but he gets along fine. The repair was going to cost $5k.
