Summer camp weight loss

Summer camp weight loss - 08/22/18 12:43 AM

Picked up my pointer from 6 weeks at trainer for force fetch. She had lost considerable amount of weight. Trainer said she was eating double what the other dogs eat, but was also active in the kennel during down time. Had the same issue last summer, at trainer 4 months which included a month long trip to Montana. Only difference was last summer she wasn’t eating much. I got the weight back on in about 2 weeks after returning home. I’m thinking is just stress related. I will be giving a 3 day dosage of safeguard also.
An opinions?

Is she accustomed to staying in a kennel? If she was nervous/active in the kennel she probably burned off a bunch of calories. She’ll probably put it back on pretty quick. If not, go she your vet for a check up.

Yes Doc she’s a kennel dog. I think being around a lot of dogs when at trainers keeps her keyed up. She’s pretty laid back at home. Will be taking to vet later this week for blood test, then appointment for spay next Monday.
Thanks for the reply!

Mine always do that. It's because there is alot of action all day at the trainers, so they burn more fat than laying around in the kennel at home.

She will gain it all back. You might put a little cooking oil over her food.

It 2 weeks last year to get the weight back on, doubling her rations. I may feed twice a day, she was pretty lethargic last night after that big feed

Some people don't like to spoil their pups, but I do. They really like cookies. Go to the Walmart and get the store brand of oatmeal cookies.

Sorry Bill, but all I feed my dogs is premium dog food.

She put on a couple pounds, then she was spayed yesterday. Didn’t eat or drink last nite or this morning. I was using an oral syringe to give her a little water last night every couple hours. This morning put some chicken broth in the syringe. Made a trip to vet midday, injection for nausea, rymidil, and some fluids. She ate a little kibble as soon as I got home. Drank a little water. Ate a little more a 6 pm feed time and a good drink of water. She’s staying in the house through the weekend.
