Pit Bull Tracker?

I've got a 6 month old pit bull that's a been a really good dog and in my opinion pretty smart. I was wondering if anyone has any experience or info on trying to train these dogs to track blood. His mom and dad are both catch dogs but I have no intentions of using him for that.

He got bit by a copperhead a couple weeks ago. A few Benadryl and 24 hours later he was fine.

Pit bulls scare me to death

Coworker ' s grandaughter was mauled by her dad's "pet" pit bull and things of that nature happen too often but there are many more of those dogs that never have a incident.

See if he has a nose for it. It takes a dog with a good nose to sort out all the smells and stay on a track. If he can use his nose really well I wouldn't see why not.

I am truly sorry for anybody that has had a bad experience with one of the greatest animals that ever walked the earth. I wish I knew what triggers an animal to bite someone that they should not have. There are bad seeds in all animals, the pitbull is just the most publicized of the bunch. I have bred and raised American Pitbull Terriers for more than 15 yrs and out of these breedings were ADBA show champions and the best catch dogs a person could ever want to have hold an ear on a pig. I have been very fortunate that I never had a dog show the slightest bit of aggression towards me or my kids. I have fought for the American Pitbull Terrier at our State Capital just to give me the right to own this great animal. I applaud you for wanting to find something your little bulldog can excel at. If you need any help, give me a shout.....Food for thought; never leave a child unattended with any animal, You never know what can trigger that animal to act different when your not around.... This is not meant to start a riot over an animal that I hold true to my heart. Just my opinion....

Any dog can bite someone. I've been around pits my entire life and never come close to being bit. I've been bitten by 3 Chihuahuas though and a Pomeranian.

Thanks for the comments. We have tried to take him everywhere with us, get him around other people and all different kinds of animals. We have chickens and goats and does great around them. So far he's a cool little dog that's really smart and maybe pick up tracking. He does love chewing on shed horns so maybe he can find me some next year as were walking through the woods.

Hmmmm. My take. pointing dogs were bred to point game. Asking what causes a pointer to point has one answer. It's in the breeding. You can't teach it. If you don't want a dog to point game don't buy a pointer and hope to god it doesn't point game even though that is what it was bred to do

Like previously posted any dog can bite just like any horse can kick you. As far as using a pit for tracking in my years of hunting hogs with dogs there is a reason you use currs or hounds as bay dogs and not pits they just aren't traditionally bred for there nose not saying it can't be done I have seen a wrotwiler used as a bird dog before.so anything is possible.
