Deer Hooves vs. Others - 03/04/15 02:39 PM

So the local taxidermy shop cut a bunch of legs/hooves for me to have. I picked them up in a big box and the skinner told me that he saved me everything from Black Buck, to Gemsbok, to White Tail hoofs without about 8-10 inches of leg attached. I was stoked initially but now I have a question.

1. Does it really matter what hooved limb I use or should I stick with WT?

I'm of opinion that variety is the spice of life and the various interdigital glands from each animal will provide a newness to him that might be beneficial. I mean heck, I'm using hogs blood anyways so I doubt using a gemsbok hoof is really gonna be that much different than a white tail hoof with regards to getting the dog to track scent. Y'alls thoughts?
