Quail wing chewing

Ok, this may be a silly question....

I have some quail wings which my dog has just recently gotten introduced to. She loves them and has quite the nose at finding in my yard. Is it ok for her to chew them
A bit as a reward for finding, or should these things be strictly hide and seek?

I don't let my dogs have as toys or entertainment, anything I use for training. That includes wings, birds, dokkens, bumpers, etc. Especially a young dog. Older dogs know the difference between work and play, but it could help create a problem with a young pup that you don't want to have to fix, later.

I would attach the wing to a bumper. When she finds it don't grab it from her or let her get used to eating them. Pet and praise her, then give her the command ( even though she doesn't know the command yet) GIVE. Slowly reach under her mouth and remove the bumper, then praise her again.
If she ever gets away from you with the wing don't chase her. Just treat it like nothing happened. Don't get on to her and don't praise her. Just walk away from her.
The reasoning is If you praise her she will think running off with the wing is a good thing. If you get on to her she may come to the conclusion that you don't approve of birds and that she should avoid them.

That's some great advice right there. Kindall, that's exactly what I tell folks when they are working with their new pups on the return to hand. Very important or you'll actually train your dog to drop the bumper in anticipation of you grabbing it out of their mouth.
