Montana Bow Lease, One Week in October

One week of archery elk season available for lease here in Montana, the lease has grown to over 13,000, gorgeous country and great elk hunting area! 7 days available between oct 6-20. Land will have been hunted in Sept by 3 other groups, of 4 hunters each, so it is not pressured. Irrigated hay and alfalfa fields draw elk in from the timbered draws and numerous state and forest service lands adjoining the properties. Smith river frontage, many streams flow across ranch, private reservoir with great trout fishing. General tag area, either sex elk. NO GUIDING OR OUTFITTING, STRICTLY DO IT YOURSELF HUNTS, CAMPING ALLOWED IN DESIGNATED AREA. The weekly leases in September were $10,000 for a group of 4, this week will be discounted to $8000 for a group of 4 for October hunt. NO MULE DEER HUNTING. May allow whitetails to be taken , additional $. I am not profiting from this lease, just wanting to recoup some of the cost which is substantial for this lease, would prefer to work with a group who would come back yearly. I am heading to Montana next month for bow elk hunt - outside of Billings about an hour or so. Hunted there last year and it is awesome - you are offering a good deal for somebody

I appreciate that TLK, I am just trying to recoup some of the substantial money it takes to compete with outfitters in this area, they charge from $7000 to over $9000 on the adjacent ranch to the west, and since I not bow hunt, it allows others the chance in a really great area, without a lot of pressure having taken place, I currently have 2 groups of 4 and 1 group of 3 hunting in Sept, not a lot of pressure for 13,000 plus thousands of state and forest service land adjoin ranch.....what direction are you hunting from Billings, I also hunt an hour west near Big Timber?

Well, Archery season has begun in Montana, the group I have hunting 1st week has knocked one 5 pt bull down so far, seeing lots of animals, they stated bugling was wild yesterday, Tuesday. I still have the October dates available. The lease in October includes another 2200 acres that will only have been hunted by one other group during the season, and is probably the best of the elk country, though, it is all good. I can furnish phone # of prior hunt groups also if a person is serious and wants to hear first hand of what the properties are like.

Well, no one leased the last two weeks of season, no hunting has been going on. Rancher reported last week the elk were still bugling. The first two groups have committed coming back in 2020. That said, the third group is not sure if they can make it back next year, so I have began putting the availability for the last week of Sept out there. Next fall two five day periods of rifle will be available. References are available, the one gentleman described his days on the hunt to me as "world class ranch". Maximum 4 hunters for bow or rifle.

The 5 day period to hunt elk is strictly do it yourself hunting, no outfitting or guiding. 4 hunters max, $10,000 for the group. Only two periods available for rifle season, opening week and Thanksgiving week taken, any other week between open, you must apply with state of Montana for the tags, deadline is March 15, check out the Montana fwp website for info.
