Booked a 4 man late season cow elk hunt last summer with Sitkahunter (James) here on THF. I do VERY few “guided” hunts myself, but this was the perfect opportunity to get a couple kids, a cousin and his father in law on some elk over the Christmas break. James and I stayed in contact through the fall and he was always a pleasure to talk to.
All in all a good, well executed hunt. Isaiah (one of James’ guides) and “the old man” hit it off immediately. I’m not sure who won the Bullschitter Award, but it made for constant comedy relief. Camp was comfortable and the food good. James hunts in a unit that is all private ground. Albeit smaller places, we never had a problem seeing and being in elk. The country he hunts is primo elk habitat.
Cousin was finished the first morning on a young, tender elk. His father in law missed a cow twice the second evening, and wasn’t able to get one on the ground. Kids stole the show and both took their first cows. Both were shot with my custom Bighorn 6.5 PRC and 139 Scenars. My daughter’s was 407 and pards son’s was 388.
If you are looking for a laid back, easy hunt with lots of elk and respectable bulls give James a holler. We look forward to going back next year.
