Geez, knocked it over

Geez, knocked it over - 07/10/21 08:51 PM

It was my least favorite blind, but I liked where it was. Well, it’s still there, but laying on its side. Between me hitting it with the shredder and an armadillo digging a hole under one leg, down she went. I have to fix this tomorrow, since my surgery is on Monday. I’m down to one good arm and one not-so-good arm, and my neighbor needs a knee replacement. Between the two of us, maybe we could build one good human. The grown grandson is in Angel Fire with his hot blond GF. The other GS is in NY. It’s down to my tractor and two damaged guys.

I could just buy a new one, but that’d be $2k or so.

If I go with a new one, I want 4x6 in fiberglass. Who makes a good one, other than Redneck Blinds?

I would buy a 5x6, nothing 4 x

Spend the money and get a ranch king , it has been fantastic 0 maintenance. Another cool thing if your broken is get one on a trailer. Best thing I ever did

The all season looks nice also

It probably will be a 5x6, whoever makes it. The prone stand is a 4x4, which I built for me about 10 or 12 years ago. I didn’t think to the future. Since then friends and grandkids want to hunt a stand that holds 2 people. I was thinking about increasing the size of the old one, but that’s a lot of work on a blind that’s near end of life and now flat on the ground. I think it’s time for something newer and bigger.

The Redneck Blind I’ve looked at is about $3000. Ouch! Maybe I can find something equally as good and less money.

Shadow hunter makes a damn fine blind.

Pretty sure, after looking at blind options, that I’ll get another Redneck Blind (5x6) on a 5’ base. The one I have has been great for about 6 years or more. Prices are up…

One thing I didn’t mention is that I’m in for shoulder surgery Monday morning. Whatever blind I go with, new or used, will have to wait a few months, or until I can get the oldest GS and the oldest GD’s boyfriend involved to do the heavy lifting. I am dreading being sidelined for a few months. Since both those boys really like hunting that stand, I’m sure they’ll be wanting to get a new one up before the season. And they like hunting it coed, with the girlfriends, which is why I’m getting a 2 person stand. I may have to put up signs outlawing any hanky panky in the stand. You know how young people are…

To help pay for the new stand, hang a condom machine in it banana

You might want to make it a free condom machine. Just a thought - or not.

They all have jobs, so free condoms shouldn’t be necessary. But, then again, who carries around quarters anymore?

Seriously, I should put a condom machine in there just for the grins. Everybody already thinks I’m a bit ‘off’.

Don't fight this. Maybe the scent will serve as an attractant. Tell us how it goes.

Re: Geez, knocked it over - 07/12/21 04:22 PM

Well, first I have to buy a new blind and put it up. Then we put in the condom dispenser. I suppose that counting the remaining condoms when the season is over will tell me about any hanky panky. This will be a long term project, I suppose.

Sorry to hear about the blind, and I'm waiting to hear the surgery went well later this week when you're back online with us.

Not sure how far you are willing to drive, but I would highly recommend a 5x6 or 5x8 fiberglass hexagon from Westex Steel up in Santo. These are the same blinds that come out of Jacksboro but Wes and his son make better towers for them to sit on. It ain't cheap, but I haven't found a better product at a better price. Let me know if I can help you in any way

good luck with the surgery ... the new stand can wait a couple of months. You should have plenty of down time during recovery to research more also.

I’m back. Based on how I feel right now (not too d___ good), it’ll be a long while till I’ll be useful for anything. I hope I can get things set up by deer season.

I wish you were closer and I’d gladly help a brother out, absolutely sucks being winged. You may want to start looking for someone to help you out with the blind. I doubt your going to be any good setting a new stand up this year.

Re: Geez, knocked it over - 07/19/21 10:04 PM

I have a big strong grandson that I know will help, and his sister’s boyfriend is also a sturdy fellow. I plan to buy a new feeder and a blind, and I hope to get them to do the grunt work - repaid in food and beer. Of course they’d get the food and beer anyway.

But…Ol Thumper, good of you to offer…

TLew, those Westex blinds look good, and the price seems reasonable (cheaper than Redneck).

The blinds are good, the towers are better. We've all been there trying to put together a tower that is a PITA. Wes really has a nice design, and I wouldn't send you anywhere I wouldn't go myself (we bought two 5x8s on 10' towers in December). Let me know if I can help in any way

Pretty sure I’m going with a Westex blind. Good price and I like the design and features. A 5x6 Premier blind on a 5’ tower. Right at $3k. Of course it could be argued about just how good a $3k price is, but heck…
