New feeder pen setup

Posted By: supersixfour

New feeder pen setup - 03/10/20 09:21 PM

Instead of building a full size pen i decided to just build a pen the size of the feeder. I used a bag of concrete for each t-post and the cattle panel is triple wired. The feeder motor is set to high power and throws the corn a good ways out from the pen. It's pretty solid. There aren't cows to worry about on this property, just hogs and deer.

I'm getting lazy in my old age and wanted to give this a try.
Thoughts?

Maybe I don't understand...the pen is supposed to keep cows and hogs from getting to the corn. This just protects the feeder.

I'm not worried about the hogs getting the corn, I just want to keep them from knocking over the feeder.

Hogs will get most of the corn.

Then that'll work just fine. I have that same feeder as my designated pig feeder. Penned to keep out cows but opening in the bottom to let in the pigs. I just staked 4 t-posts and ran some barbed wire around the bottom to keep out the little fellows. 3-4 months with no issues...and I have some boars that are taller than the pen.

That'll work just fine- I've had my Buccees feeder out for almost a year now in the pasture that has had cows in it on occasion and hogs most nights with no problems yet. I used the stakes to hold it in place.

I've had really good luck with the Bucee's feeder so far.
Think I'm gonna pick up another one and sell one of my tripod feeders.
I've been having problems with my SpinTech 12v setup. The feeder plate isspring loaded and is supposed to close after spinning, but it keeps getting
stuck in the down position and I lose all my corn in like 2 weeks.
Everything is lined up and I keep the mechanism oiled, but I think the spring is worn out.
With the Bucee's feeders there isn't anything to worry about.

You just turned a good thing into a bad thing. One t post and some wire will keep hogs from knocking a feeder over

I haven’t heard of hogs or cows knocking a stand and fill over ever unless it was empty.

I guess I'm overthinking things. I like that setup with 1 tpost.

I have rogue cows on my lease,,, here is a pic of them tearing up my tripod feeder, a big pig, and raccoons reaching for the corn. 3 buckee feeders and no problems,, I love them.

The only thing you need to fix on the Buc-ee’s feeder is you need take the bottom plate off and put a small piece of emt over the motor wire sooner or later the corn is going to tear apart the bare motor wires that’s only thing I see wrong with this feeder 400$ more than worth it here’s a pic of what I used from the bottom plate up into the timer area [Linked Image]
