Food Plot?

So I’ve been searching everything I can about food plots where cattle are present. But still have to conceded hogs as well. About the only way to make it work is by planting a mini plot in the feeder pen. My current pens are 30x30. If I doubled the size, do you think it’s worth the while? If not, how big should I make it? I’m reading mini plots are 10th to half acre. Anyone try this yet?

You could make an acre sized pen out of hot wire and poly posts, I did that in a cattle lease a couple years and worked really well.

To make a kill plot even a 60x60, would be a lot of panels and not enough yield. You might get a couple sprigs of oats or wheat that would be ripe on any given day and that isn't going to attract deer any more than your current feeders do. What you might do, is use your existing feed pen as part of the hot wire enclosure for the food plot, and then branch out from there and make a half to whole acre plot. Then you would be cooking with peanut oil.

I’m leaning more towards cloves. Maybe a mixture of red and white. I would love to do beans, but then I know the plot would have to be sizable. To make a 60x60 with existing pen, I would only need 6 more panels. That’s only 150 bucks plus t post. I can certainly go bigger if it were profitable. Hot fence I know would be idea, but against owners wishes. The real idea here is to stop or greatly stop the corn when winter sets in and have a supliment other than protein

Just from my experience, a 60x60 of either wheat or clover will not be sufficient to turn off the feeder. That size plot would be more along the line of thought: won’t hurt but probably won’t help either

If you want to put the work in it then that’s fine, it can’t hurt really, but don’t turn the feeder off
