Blind tie-down - parts bin??

I'm planning way down the road for a tower blind I eventually want to put up. A member on here posted a picture of his blind tied down with one of those large, industrial wire cage parts bin, filled with rocks. (Long time ago; 'can't find it.)

Does anyone have any idea where, hopefully in the central or south Texas area, I could buy one or two of these used? Thanks in advance. (Driving t-posts on this ranch is a real challenge without a jack hammer.)

You could weld one up extremely easily with cattle panels and rebar. Take 5 mins

…if you know how to weld. Confession: I helped run 4 shops in TX and NM, with approximately 70 mechanics/welders, some of them ANSI certified for aerial devices, and never learned how to weld. I know a bad weld when I see it though. In retirement I took a school district continuing ed class, just to say I could run a bead. 'Got the certificate. Reality: I don't know how to weld.

I know, I know, "Seek ye a welder."

There's always some for sale on Craigslist.

I believe you are talking about a post of mine. That wasn't a parts bin, I made the basket out of 1 cattle panel I cut into 5 equal rectangles and held them together with those U shaped cable clamps. When I get home l will post a link to that thread.

You don't even have to weld them, the way twinbubba did his will work perfectly fine. The only thing you might want to do is get some type of rod 3/4" or so, cut it down to 4' and bolt it to the top two sides that you plan to anchor to in a lot of places. Then anchor your cable off of it and the top wire instead of just the top wire. That way instead of the cable trying to pull on one specific spot of wire, it's spread over the whole side. I may be overthinking it but just anchoring it to that 6GA cattle panel wire may bend and make slack over time for you.

Sorry, didn't realize you were a southerner. The bundle of rocks in a panel looks like a good/easy cheap idea.

I have done them using two of the larger cattle tubs(on larger blinds, one for smaller) or built a 4'x4' square form. Filled them with rocks then bags of sackrete. I put a chain(s) in with a piece of rebar or sucker rod thru the last link to help it from pulling the chain out. I put a large turnbuckle between the chain a cable(ran to each leg at base of blind) so I can cinch the blind down. I will barely lift the concrete off the ground if I can.

Have you considered drilling into a rock and putting in an anchor bolt?

I could drill; 'gotta rock bit, decent drill and a generator. Just have to match the eye bolt to the bit. 'Not sure I'd trust my work over time though.

After taking another look at a picture of my anchor basket I see that I used a hog panel not a cattle panel.

As an alternative, you could place your blind over the top of a 3/4" or bigger bush stob. 1 chain & a turn-buckle you're done.

Yep, there's plenty of cedar where I'm thinking about that I could cut back, tie off, and then have a nice "shrubbery" under my blind.

I used half of a 55 gallon barrel to do this last weekend for a 6 foot tower. Seems pretty solid.

Parts bin is a neat idea. I hope yal never have to move that thing though! I wouldn't use one. For your instance I think a concrete anchor makes a lot of sense very strong and easy.

We piled a crap ton of rocks on a section of chain link fence and cabled it to the stand. Has worked for 4 years including last year through a tornado that killed 5 other stands on the property. I’d say that makes it battle proven.

Could you use the frame of a large water tote with bladder removed

yep, someone on here not to long ago had one of the tote frames filled with rocks for weight sitting under the stand with cabling going up to the corners.

Always use this when able!

I'm not saying Who, but I know a guy who swears by using a Wal Mart Grocery Cart full of rocks and anchor stand to it. The ones from Fredericksburg Wal Mart work great... I mean, he told me they work great

Variation on an idea posted, 8 foot length of 8 foot tall(8 foot square) chain link fence. 4 corners "looped" together, diagonally(wife would say Annie-goggled) using 3/8 or bigger "Quik-links" then a screw eye through the blind floor, backed up by a couple thicknesses of plywood or OSB...and an old almost worn out come-along...between the mesh "bag-o-rocks" and the screw eye under the blind floor...it had been in place for years...I changed out the floor "backups" once and it was still working fine when I gave up the lease and left it there.
