My Camper Blind project

My Camper Blind project - 12/03/18 08:19 AM

I bought this 1971 Camper about 30 years ago for $300 and served me well on half a dozen hunting leases. It was worn out and slated to be torn down and recycled, but last minute I decided to bring it home and refurbish it into a stand. Glad I did. It is now near Fairplay TX set up mostly for night hog hunting.

All wiring not already has been converted to 12 volt. I added a 200w solar panel, charge controller, fuse block, and deep cycle batteries. All accessories are hard wired in appropriate converters, relays, or dedicated receptacles. All interior lights converted to LED.

It has two trucker fans, a new roof vent fan, and quiet positive pressure fan used normally for computer servers is mounted using the old furnace flue and wired into a wall switch. So I can get lots of air circulation in warmer weather.
Propane Lamp from a sailboat mounted on wall in case I ever run out of power.
A new catalytic heater mounted on the wall in place of the old furnace.
Walls sided with plywood to firm them up and new blind windows installed across the back. And blackout curtains added for night hunting.
There is a driveway alarm receiver mounted above the shooting bench along with a switch for a green LED flood/spot light. 2nd switch just for the fun of it lights up the whole perimeter of the blind.
Added a solid shooting bench below the main window.
A bed base stores against the wall below the shooting bench that can be pulled out. The foam center piece and cot mattress folds up and stores on a shelf. During the day there is a nice office chair I use that is not pictured.
I installed a radio normally used on motorcycles. Wireless headphones that can be used with it.
Water tank replaced with easily swapped water jug system. Sink faucet retains original hand pump but also added a 12 volt low amp draw water pump normally used with water features.
12 Volt TV, roku with 3T hard drive full of 100s of movies and tv shows. Ear buds plug into the roku remote.
A wall mounted clock/barometer/moon phase/alarm/inside outside temp weather center.
A commercial dry toilet and the usual deer stand funnel with a hose run underground.
Stocked with enough non perishable food for several trips before needing restocking.
And more.
All that is left is to lift the entire camper up off the ground onto blocks to get the wheels off the ground so it sets solid and level.

That is the way to hunt. I really have no comment. I think you could stay for days without thinking about work. Great looking set up.

Feeder is downhill right at 50 yards with a live creek running another 50 yards down. The woods are super thick and this was the longest possible clearing on the woods half of the property. There is a pig pipe in a small clearing through the woods on the other side of the camper. I put a shooting rest with an owl ear sandbag mounted on it in front of that window. The pig pipe will have a separate driveway sensor and solar led light over it. The feeder is the one I posted about building in this forum a while back. It is a beast throwing corn over 20 yards away from the feeder.

I retired last month. wink Maybe I should name it the "Retirement Stand". But I am helping work the land for hunting access. My hunting partner who invited me on his place sleeps in his stand when he is there hunting so I told him I would set up my stand to do same. I kinda got carried away. This is not normally how I hunt. This camper stand is nicer than the camper I currently stay in on my Young county lease. It will also be my base camp for other small game hunting in the area with my dog. And fishing. Murvaul is just down the road.

The roku idea worked out really well. It runs off 12v so just a matter of cutting the cord off the AC adapter and wiring it through my fuse block. I used an older roku 3 with a usb port to plug in a portable hard drive and the roku 3 already has an earbud jack right on the remote .
