Bug free blind

So.... at the advice of a few forum members I tried something new.

There was a thread a few weeks back talking about keeping MOST of the "bugs" out of your blind with many ideas and most of them I had already tried. I have never checked my blind and found it bug free there's always something in there.

I try to make it to my hunting area every two weeks and spray the ground around my blind with some type of over and out. I also set off a bug bomb once a month.

The last two trips up there I have sprayed the legs of my blind and I mean soaked them down and nothing else..... It could just be a dumb luck but this weekend I did not have one bug of any kind on or in my blind. I also sprayed a generous amount all the way around the door but not the windows.

Take that for what it's worth but, it worked for me....

Please feel free to correct my grammar, it's been brought to my attention that I need some assistance.

The main pest everybody wants out of their blind are wasps/yellow jackets. But also beware of black windows and other spiders. Get yourself a pest strip from Walmart. Put it in now and you can take it out of your blind on opening morning. You will be "bug" free.

I don't do anything to keep bugs out bc they can't get in. There are no gaps anywhere and I have not seen a single bug in it yet.

Hot shot pest strips have done great for us. Kills everything that flies or crawls.

I spray mine down with Demon after I do the camp house. Spray up the legs of the stand and all corners top and bottom inside and out . You won't have a bug problem.

seal it up if you can. weather strip. door and windows that close tight. i had 2 4x8 wood blinds about 6' up. every september. break out the bug bombs. get the gen and the shop vac. pull chairs and carpet. completely clean 9 months of bug and mouse poo out of the blind. then still battle wasps that move in to get out of the cold. nothing like sitting in a cold blind with the Thermocell going and start hearing things hit the carpet. yellow jackets are hard to see on OSB. last season i purchased 2 used 6 shooter Maverick blinds. put real nice bulb gasket on the door and windows. to my pleasure this weekend my 2 blinds were void of wasps and bugs.

make sure the blind is all sealed and your good!!!

With wasps, it seems to me that it's better to have the door blown open and holes big enough that a big boar racoon could run through without raffling his fur than to be just be kinda closed up. One of our best blinds is always loaded with wasps at the beginning of the season.

Raid wasp spray is the answer.

will second what most have said already....the hotshot strip, foggers every couple weeks, etc...
I also have a 15 gallon sprayer that I use with a farmworks insecticide from tractor supply...pull right up to blinds and spray....all I see is dead bugs, thereafter.....I do it on the travel trailer and storage containers... trailer is already pretty tight, but more is better!

Suspend SC and a pump sprayer. That will kill everything and keep bees from forming nests. You can buy it here in Texas from do it yourself pest control. It has an easy 3 month life to it, will not discolor anything you spray it on and is basically waterproof with sticking agents added to it. I used to do pest control up north and we would spray people's foundations and exteriors of their homes with the stuff every 3 months. We would also spray the inside and it would keep ants and cockroaches out of your home. They use it for bed bugs and it's safe once it is dry. It attacks the nervous system of insects. It will keep carpenter ants and termites off your home too. It also doesn't have an odor. I spray our house every 3 months here and the bees never make nests around our house. If we see a cockroach that slipped in through the sliding door track, it's already rolled over and dying from walking over the line of Suspend SC. You can buy it from that place for cheap money and one bottle will last you years. Arilon is great for ant and roach problems because it's invisible to them so they get it on them and then bring it back to the nest. Takes about 5-10 days to kill them all but it works great. A few months into having my blind I built in place and I haven't had a single bug in it yet. Sucker is bug, water, and dang near air tight.

I read somewhere that a guy bought bovine ear tags that had permethrin in them and hung em up for the off-season that he had no bugs or wasps or critters come fall

I wonder if you sprayed the carpet and curtains in the blind with permethrin in the spring if it would keep them out....

This is my process and seems to work well.

Hot Shot pest strip. Easiest thing, no mess. Just put them in. Must do it before first freeze.

The original purpose of this thread was to tell people that spraying the legs of your blind helps...

we use foggers every month and the hot shots...also seal cracks anytime we see them. Everyone one of us on the lease keeps sealing foam in their buggie at all times.

Aint this the truth...the wasps are annoying, but the black widows are the ones that scare me. I opened the door to one of my stands for the first time since last season the other day and there were 2 dead black widows in the floor and a fire ant colony in the carpet.

I may found a stray moth or something once in a blue moon.

Tbox blind holding up great. Never a wasp, spider or etc. Not 100% sealed either.

Had to rig the windows shut with a lock as owls can slide windows open apparently!

Lol!! Yes they can!! If they are not snug!

Hot Shot is the way to go.
