Best rain/light hunting jacket

Best rain/light hunting jacket - 10/01/21 06:38 AM

I have lite jackets and a couple good heavy coats. I need the light jacket/rainy weather/light coat to fill the gap.

Not wanting $1500 Alaska gear or $30 Walmart crap.

Best light quit rain jacket for $150-250.....

Hunter oriented: Kuiu Chugach TR
Sitka Dewpoint

Non Hunter oriented: Arc Teryx Beta LT or Alpha SL

Just a few off the top of my head. Several outdoor/mountaineering brands make excellent rain wear. Just keep in mind they don’t have any reason to try ans make the fabrics quiet so they are typically stiffer and louder than the “Hunting Brands”. Bobo will likely be along shortly to add to it.

You highlighted my favorites. Really comes down to what’s the use.

For just everyday there are a couple Columbia options I like for a little less then Arc Teryx but you will always be hard pressed to beat arc teryx quality

I’m looking at my last good one. But once, cry once. Not hard use....or probably much use. But I want a really good one when I need one.

I’ve had good luck with the Cabela’s light gortex one. It was around $100

Just remember water resistant is not the same as waterproof. Not by a long shot.

Give First Lite a look.

I've got a Cabelas MT50 jacket and bibs that I've had for at least 10 years, and that stuff has been a trooper. I bought it for a trip to Alaska and it's served me well from there to Louisiana and every place in between. Since Johnny Morris now owns Cabelas, I suspect its either no longer available or the quality has gone downhill.

Pretty much covers the gamut with really good answers. I have Arc'teryx for non hunting and I have Sitka for hunting. The dew point line from Sitka is great for top and bottom by the way. One of my hunting partners has the First Lite rain jacket and likes it as well. In general, I'd think $300 or so would get you to where you want to be.

I have the vapor stormlight something or other from first lite...it is thin, like super paper thin, but it is indeed waterproof. I keep it rolled up in a ball either in my truck or in my backpack that I carry to the blind with me (on those days where it looks like it could rain). It packs very small, you could probably roll it up tight enough to fit into a solo cup. No pit zips..really the only downside.

I bought it during their sale and think it was a shade under $200.

For the record - I have several first lite items and haven't really tried any other high-end hunting stuff, the first lite stuff fit me well so I have stuck with it.
