Best Cellular Game Cams? - 04/05/20 05:58 AM

What are using and happy with? I've heard good things about RidgeTec and Covert, but it's my understanding that each cam has to have a separate cell plan. I'm looking to hook up 4 cams. I like the idea of the Cuddeback Link system where you only need 1 cell plan for multiple cams but the 1/2 mile limit between cams won't work for me. Does anybody out there make a linkable system with a 1 1/4 mile between cams? TIA for the info!

Ridgetec is one plan for multiple cameras, my cost per month is less than $30 for 3 cameras. The new versions are dual carrier, they come with 2 sim cards, Verizon and AT&T, the only thing I cannot adjust remotely is the sensitivity of the PIR sensor, everything else is remote access including firmware updates.

I run 5 Coverts and love them. Their customer service is great and I’ve gotten new cameras for any warranty issues I’ve had. You can pool you data plans between multiple cameras and I feel that they are pretty reasonably priced. Really simple to work and I like their app better than others.

How long have you been running them? Which models are you running?

5 years. I have a mix of code black 12.1s and code black LTEs. The code black LTEs can be had on amazon for around 270$ a piece which is well worth it. If you have to pay full retail don’t, there are places that sell them for under $300 a piece regularly.

I’ll also add I run my cameras 24/7/365 with solar panels and rechargeable batteries. I never pull my cameras and have had very few issues over the years.

I've run Spartan and Covert. I use to have problems with Covert, but they seem to have got things together the last couple of years. Spartan is solid and has been for years. They seem to be a little pricier than the Covert, at least in the past. Reliability from where mine are at is about the same. Picture quality would consider equal.
Spartan seems to be harder on batteries that Covert. I run a battery box with a large 6v battery on both cameras. Both have solar panels. Covert has been sending pics since September. Spartan pooped out early January. I may have a bad solar panel to be fair. I would not hesitate to go with either brand.
Hope this helps some.

I saw where Covert had a new cellular camera system where it has a base unit and can connect several to it and transmit
with the base unit. I saw it on some videos at the 2020 Shot-Show. What is interesting to me is that if you have 1 good spot
with cellular coverage you can put the base unit at that location then the other units can be up to 1100 yards (I think) from
the base unit and it transmits for all the other cameras. I have not purchased one of these but this would fit our situation
at our lease. Just something you might want to check out. It is new so you might wait for some of the bugs to get worked out
or wait for others feedback. I hope this might help others.

I’ve have Snyper, I bought two last year at the Deer Extravaganza in Ft Worth. Put them out in mid August and they worked great until opening weekend. They pushed an update that required a manual firmware update, that required an in person sd card load.

That was the first time and it happened again in January. I don’t know what this was this time but another in person firmware update fixed it.

Now I have one that is not booting up. I will call them this week, good news is they are responsive and easy to work with the bad news is you’ll need them in my experience.

They also have a plan for every camera but offer an ATT option that is $15 for unlimited pictures. They also offer a SIMHero option that will use what ever tower it gets the best signal from.

I’ll likely not buy another one.

I run stealth cam wireless. Free app and cheap plans - starting at $5 a month. Been running it for 2 years now. Haven’t had any problems. I use a the HME 12V battery box with a solar panel attached to it. Lasts me 3-4 months
All settings can be changed from the app.

Stealth has a new camera and data plan coming out next month that will allow you to run 4 cameras for $480/year plus $5 for each additional camera. If you run 10 cellular cams like me, that is $510 or $51 each for a year. I have been running Stealth and Spypoint for 9 years now (4 years for Stealth). I am done with Spypoint, way too many problems. I have never had an issue with Stealth and you can send video as well. Stealth cell cameras are some of the least expensive as well. My last 4 cost me $99 each on Amazon.

We have a couple groups on Facebook just for cellular game cameras. One is Cellular Game Cameras and it for giving honest feedback on all cell cameras. This is a good group to get info on many different brands. We are adding reviews everyday.

Another is Spypoint Cellular Camera and it is for only Spypoints. It is a good group with info on how to get your camera going and we have 2 experts from Spypoint in the group that help users get their cameras going. They are well used because those cameras are always giving us problems.

Any word on the Cell Link from Spypoint? I thought that it was supposed to be out pretty soon.

I just deployed 3 RidgeTex Lookouts over the last 3 weeks, it was effortless. I get the first month free for each cameras and will be paying ~$37 per month for all three cameras once the free month is over. The portal is user friendly and I can control just about everything remotely. It comes with both att & verizon sims cards. I used a booster antenna and receptions is stellar. Lastly, pics and trigger reset exceptional. very pleased

The MoultrieMobile 7000xi I bought on the forum here has been great. The plan I have is 3000 pics/month for $19.99. That can be shared with other cameras although I only have one. Great pictures and a really fast shutter that allows birds to be caught in flight without much blur. I’m sure there’s a reason it’s cheaper than the rest but I have no complaints and also nothing to compare it to.

It’s also fully adjustable from my cell phone. Including sensitivity.

I have been pleased with my wireless stealth camera. I have a solar charger on it and has been problem free. Picture quality is great and monthly fees are reasonable.

I have 4 Spartan cameras, Two are 6volt and two are 12volt. the new Ghost version has GPS locator so if someone up and steals it you can track them down. Even if all the batteries are removed.

I have all of them set up with external battery boxes and solar panels. I have not had to touch then since January. Originally I thought i had an issue with bad solar panels but it was due to using copper coated wire and they corroded. Switched to solid copper wire and haven't had an issue since.

I just bought a Ridgetec too. Which booster antenna did you get? I'm also thinking about going 12v solar.

I cashed in some Cabelas Points and bought a SpyPoint Cell-Link for $59.99. It is supposed to work with just about any existing cam you own. I finally got a MicroSD card(10x) and set mine up today. Simple setup once you get the app download. Need to format(not quick) the card first then it walks you thru the setup steps. You get a 7 days of unlimited free photos transmissions to start then free 100 per month. Plans are based off what you think you might use..if you buy the unlimited year plan it is $120 per year or go month to month with no contract for $15. I used an 8 yr old Primos Truth cam to test it with since it had a bottom SD port and was the easiest to test it with close to the house. I used a 1 minute delay and set up mine to send photos to the app every 2 hrs...you can chose every 24 hrs or 12 hrs or 6 hrs or 4 hrs or every 2 hrs. I used Rayovac Alkaline batteries as a test to see how long they would last sending pics every 2 hrs with the 1 minute delay and lowest resolution. Here are a few of the pics I got tonight at 10 pm. After a week or so I will change it to a better camera and play with the resolution/camera delay to see how the battery life compares to this older Primos. The camera batteries are not effected by this unit and it still stores the pics on the Micro SD card. You can save pics from the card to your computer or phone then delete them from the app. You can not adjust the camera from the app or send videos. So far it works pretty good with better signal than my phone has in the same location.

I just got in my RidgeTec and fired it up. Good pics and 1st month is free. I have the Verizon SIM card in. Will be taking it to the Panhandle soon to check on mule deer. So far it is working great on my place. New herd of hogs came in last night it caught.
