ADVICE - 800-1000 yard Range finder.

I am looking to buy a 800-1000 yd RF. Been looking at the smaller hand helds.

I am looking at the Sig Kilo 850 and wanted to see if anyone had any preferences or Feedback.

I haven't played with that one yet but really like the SIG 2k. Got the 2k to range cows to 1805 yards. Really like the more real time reading of the SIG range finders over the others I have tried especially in the scan mode.

I've got a leupold rx1000 dna. Great for what I need. I especially like the illumination and brightness adjustment. It was 250 at cabelas on bf two years ago. Haven't seen them that cheap since and they add new models to keep pricing up.

Went today to check out a leupold rx850 that was on sale for 150 for my son. Did not have illumination. I looked at the sig. Very nice. Clear. Illumination and has the continuous measurement while holding down button rather than to keep having to hit the button again and again.

I'm happy with mine so I'll stay where I am at and just have to lend it to my son. I'd look hard at the Sig if I was in the market.

Thanks guys, I am leaning towards that SIG, either the 850 or bigger. I like the value and the options. Anyone else?

Might look at the Vortex. Illumination that is adjustable, nice size and feel. Holding down button give continuous readings. One thing I don't care for is a bit of lag time in reading - press the button and it seems to take a second or so to give the reading. Lifetime warranty is a big selling point.

I am happy with my Sigg Kilo 2000. Only issues I've had were during hazy conditions. I have only had it out once it ranged a blind at 1250. I haven't tried on deer or other animals yet.

Kirk....Get the Kilo 2000. I have it and consistently can get out to 1500 or better. Up to the 2000 on a large object. Had the Leupold. Ditched it for this one. You will love the Sig. Heard after first of year they may be coming out with the Kilo 2400

$349 is a good price on a Sig 2k, I have had several and would take the Sig over any others I have had no question, plus a great warranty. A lot of power in a small form.

I love my sig kilo...I paid more than $350 for it though but it is the best in my opinion

I second this. I have the 1000 DNR and am very happy with it. consistent readings on game is around 750 yards.

+1 for the kilo 2000

I have the Leupold 850i tbr and like it. The vortex has bad glass imo. Haven't looked through the sig but seems to have a good rep.

FYI

Unless technology has changed in the last 12 months, a range finder will range half of its advertised distance, on clear sunny days. The red in the spectrum washes the laser out, so it shortens it's capacity. On cloudy days, and at sundown, or predawn, you can get the range finder to ping it's rated distance on a reflective object.

So if you want to be able to range a coyote at 1000 yards, you should buy a range finder that is rated much farther than that.

I would definitely check out Leica they are excellent quality and a nice size
