Walking sticks - Brazos

Walking sticks - Brazos - 10/20/15 10:13 PM

Technically not hunting gear, but they can help in the hunt. On a recent trip to Scotland, I really liked the walking sticks of the "gillies" or stalkers (guides). I'd bought my wife a mesquite walking stick from Brazos Walking Sticks a while back. A few years ago I killed an axis buck with one really long antler on one side and a deformed stub on the other. I thought the stub would make a neat top for a walking staff. I emailed Brazos on Friday afternoon late. Saturday morning Hannah with Brazos emailed me back. I put the antler top in UPS Monday, Oct. 12th to them. I received my walking staff yesterday evening. It's a little thicker than I would have liked, but it's not too heavy and could also marginally double as a club. 58" overall (about chest high). 'Can't say enough good about them. Brazos Walking Sticks in Waco. They sent a card for $5.00 off, use code FIVEOFF.

Always wanted a good walking staff. Jesus even mentions one: These were his instructions: "Take nothing for the journey except a staff--no bread, no bag, no money in your belts." - Mark 6:8

Nice "stick" cr, that one could double as a shooting rest too if needed. I have seen some real fancy ones over the years, carved and what not, my grandfather had a few from S. America that where nice, teak iirc.

Yep, Jesus told the disciples that he would take care of them basically, all they needed was a "staff", he takes care of the rest up

Psalm 23:4 of course, also speaks of a "rod and staff"

Trekking poles are the way to go if you are really going to use them but these are more art that tool.

Yelp. Camofire had a steal on some recently. Added a backup pair. No way I'm taking those above on a mountain.

I'm thinking about getting some Black Diamond trekking poles. Buddy let me us one of his and he used the other when we did the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim run....amazing how that one pole aided me on the climbs...and even on the sharp descents it helped. Those seasoned hikers always have them...they know what they are doing.

Trekking poles are great. But plenty of professional hunting guides in Scotland climb the moors with this "art" and use it hard as a tool. I like some of the old ways. To each his own.

I hear ya Creekrunner. I guess a lot of people just like to use the best tool for the job. Others like to do things in style. There is no right way it's just finding the right way for you.
