Hornady 7mm eld m and x bullets.

How does the eld bullets preform on deer? I have a new browning xbolt 280AI. I been looking at the eld 162gr bullets. Even the 166gr A Tip would work. I can shoot out to 600 yds in some areas. I wanted to try the berger 168gr classic hunter. And the 175gr elite hunter bullet. But there like finding big foot.

I have only shot the eldx. I think you will like them, I have no complaints and good on game performance.

I am a big fan of the 162 ELD-M, but I am shooting them in a 20" 7-08. My muzzle velocity is around 2630, and they have performed flawlessly on everything I have shot. Over 20 animals including coyotes, pronghorn, whitetail, hogs, and two cow elk. The elk were at 300 and 400 yards. I've also shot that same combo on steel out to 1000 yards. Performance on game has been outstanding. All have been complete passthroughs except for the elk at 300 yards. That bullet was recovered on the offside hide, and mushroomed perfectly. All that said, I would probably lean toward the ELD-X at the 280 AI velocities. I have a buddy loading them for his 24" 280 AI, and we were pushing them right at around 3000 fps if I remember correctly. Last fall was his first season with the rifle, and he took a mule deer and pronghorn with good results.

Nothing but freezer filling from it. I have probably killed 20 whitetail at the end of that bullet. 50 yards to 500 yards. Most under 250 yards.

Do you notice a substantial difference in drop between shooting 160 and something like a 140? My new Bergara 7-08 does best with 160’s, but my usual bullet is 140.

Are you talking about trajectory of the bullet?

I'll be the odd man out...I won't use them. I've personally had the 162 x pencil through a coyote and I've seen two others pencil, one on deer and the other on an elk. Amax was the better bullet if they just could've kept the tips on them

I like the ELDX, 308, 6.5 CM and 7mag
I am running the 162s in my 7mag and they have worked great in it. I have only shot a few deer with it at like 3-450 yards, all were DRT

I’ve still got a decent stack of A-Max but am considering a new bullet for the new rifle. I don’t want to start a new rig with only 600 bullets and no more to be bought.

No...three different calibers and speed...two different bullets, so I don't think so. If you do some digging around forums that have folks who hunt a lot, you can find other accounts similar to mine...then you have Garvey who stones everything he shoots with them (and I've seen that too), makes zero sense but I've seen enough to not shoot them on anything except varmints (including pigs).

Have you tried the M’s?

I’ve only used x’s at hot CM speeds and 143gr. Bang flop and that’s with callen shooting not me. But that’s a very small sample size

I think Boz had some issue with his 7wsm but I’m foggy on details. Elk and 700 yards so.. not normal conditions. But just about every thing he shoots down south is 7mm wsm ELDx and has blood or flop

I’m shooting 175 ELDX at an avg muzzle velocity of 2607 FPS, furthest kill was a doe at about 200 yards did great.

162 and 140 gr will be significantly different trajectories beyond 300 yards.

Significant weight difference, significant BC difference, and significant muzzle velocity difference.

I have not tried the M's...after my experience with the X's, I won't either. Too many good bullets out there to take a chance on one.

I use the 162 ELDX and ELDM's in my 280AI.

I've shot about a dozen animals with the 280AI.

None made it past 20 yards. 100-260 yard shots.

Big fan, personally.

I have berger 140gr and 168gr vld hunting bullets. I know what they will do. I wanted to try a different bullet. If i could get 2 boxes berger 175gr elite hunters. I would use them. But no luck finding them. I am planning on trying the 162gr m. I fount some 175gr eld x there blemish bullets. 31.00 per 100. But i didnt know about using them . I didnt think i needed 175gr on Arkansas deer.
