223 load - 04/20/22 08:21 PM
Anyone have an accurate load with 62 gr bullets, they would share? With the component situation like it is , sure would be nice to have jump on a load. The wife and I are booked for a prairie dog hunt in early june. I am not sure who makes the bullet, they are repackaged Midway 62 's. Boattails and this is the first time I have tried these bullets. Thanks Daniel

I'm using 25.4 grains of Benchmark with a 60 grain VMax out of a Tikka sporter 8 twist. 3042FPS.
Can cover five shots with a dime at 100.

On my Apex10 I am loading Benchmark at 24gr with 62gr and getting 1MOA groups from my 3gun AR with a 1-8x scope.
In My Tikka 223 N133 at 24.0 with the 60gr TMK hovers at 1/2 MOA.

I've had some really good luck Ramshot tac with 60gr soft points, no boat tail. Honestly i have no clue whether the bt will make a difference or not but I had a good luck with Tac in my 223 tikka 1:8.

I use H335 behind 63, 64, and 65 gr bullets. They shoot equally well in the bolt gun and the AR, and the loads are 24.2 and 24.3 gr, depending on the specific bullet. Since the loads shoot equally well in both rifles, maybe they’d work for the OP also. Note: those loads are not max, but are certainly warm, so work up to it.
You're going to have to find what your specific barrel likes. My load probably won't work in your rifle. Just load some up and test.

I’ve been shooting tac here lately with some nice results, in fact it meters so nicely i take my thrower and empty brass and thow loads until I hit one..
mlast range trip I hit the load on the 3rd attempt so 12 rounds had a fully developed load.

I like Varget for .223 too.

Me too but it's in short supply so I save it. In my small number of combos I've tried, Varget was much better than others at the 70gr or more bullets than other powders tried. At the 60ish range, other powders performed equally as well for me.

Interestingly, Varget is what I have the most of, followed by CFE223. But I prefer the temp-stable powders above all else.

I had really good luck with 23.8 grains of TAC with a 55 grain SGK.
OP: load up a ladder test and see what it tells you.
Another pro for Tac is that I see it actually available from time to time.

If using TAC with a 62, I was using 26.5. Its 556 pressure, but around 26 grains mine have shot well.

http://www.natoreloading.com/556/Found the load today, 24.5 gr of BENCHMARK with the 62 gr Midway bullet. Have not measured group yet but think it will be 1/2 in at 100 yds. Great thing about the load is that both of our 223 bolts shoot the load great!!!! DStroud thanks. Daniel

Another for RAM Tac. 24.5g and 69gr SMK. Use the same load for 55gr. FMJ. Both shoot lights out in several different guns.
