Which powder is preferred for this caliber?

Most popular I've read about is H1000 and RL26. I can't find either of those anywhere and I only have H4831SC and IMR4831.. so I'm going to eventually see how those go. Don't have the time and need to refine my reloading setup before I can do that though.

You can try US869, RL22 or RL23. RL23 use RL22 loading information.

Magpro can also be used.

OK, I saw where a member has some powder for trade. They are looking for some RL-26.

From my research if shooting the140g and up your top performers will be RL-26, H-1000 and N565. Below the 140g weight many are using 4831SC, RL-23 and Retumbo. In todays world, whatever you can get a hold of.

Retumbo, H1k, RL26, H4831 are the top 4 powders for that case. Unless someone invents something new

A friend of mine uses N-165.

Where can I find load data for those powders? Picking up some 130 Berger’s until I can get some heavies. I have RL22.23 and IMR 7977 and h4831sc. Couldn’t find data on Hodgdons site

Hodgdon isn’t the best source, the best place I’ve found is on Facebook in the 6.5 Saum/ prc/ gap 4s page.
Google will pull some off long range hunter.

You can start with 6.5-284 near max published data for a start for the prc case.

I’ll tell you dropping through an 8” tube with a few taps and seating a bullet with a slight crunch was where retumbo shoots. It’s a bit laborious.

This case is easy to load for and hitting a solid 3k or even 3200 is easily achieved.
I wouldn’t run it hard if it were mine, keep it in the 2900-3050fps range with a 140 and it will give you some decent life.
4831, has made the smallest groups for me followed by retumbo and h1k
A friend of mine runs RL26 and has some silly speeds but I’m thinking he has just about torched that barrel at about 600 rounds.

I have had great accuracy with Retumbo and 147 Eld-M @ low 2900s, working with N565 with just little bit better speed just under 3k
