224 Partition or 64 gr BSB

224 Partition or 64 gr BSB - 01/11/22 07:47 PM

Since the Post Office lost what I was planning to load, I’ll have to work up new loads with either the Partition or BSB. This is to be pig medicine and the occasional coyote blaster. Over the years, I’ve used the Partition on pigs, but have no history on pigs and the BSB bullet. Any info, preferences, or opinions based on experience are welcome.

Never mind. It seems I asked this question about 4 years ago (getting forgetful it seems). I’m just going with the BSB. I have plenty and ordered more.

The 64 Grain BSB is a good bullet and easier to find right now than the Partition. Good Choice lol.

64gr are available on https://www.shootersproshop.com/22-caliber-64gr-bonded-solid-base-100ct-blem.html

These are the Blems but I have had good luck with most of the Blems I have used from there.

Yep! Thanks to you I laid in a small stock a while back. Ordered more today.

The Partitions I have came from Cast. I kinda hate to shoot ‘em up.

The results: I did go with the 64 gr Nosler BSB’s. Used H335 powder and the CCI 41 primers. Other bullets I use are the 63 gr Sierra SMP and the 65 gr Sierra GK, and the magic load for them is almost exactly the same. That same load was the magic load for the 64 gr BSB’s. This was in the Ruger Hawkeye. Those 63 and 65 gr loads also shoot well in the AR, so tomorrow I’ll see if the 64’s also shoot well.

The last group I shot wasn’t measured, but looked to be somewhere between 1/2” and 3/4”. That’ll work for pigs. Was a good afternoon in the reloading shop.

Those three bullets are my favorite three bullets for deer and hogs in the .223/5.56.

The 63 Grain Sierra SMP is excellent for slower twist barrels like you find in bolt action .223s. IME they will stabilize in 1 in 14 twist .222s, .223s, 22/250s, and .220 Swifts.
