We knew it was coming

We knew it was coming - 01/18/21 08:30 PM

This was from Winchester today announcing their price increase. We knew it was coming and I think it will happen again if people continue to buy/hoard ammo and components like they are

I hardly think buying what you think you will need or stocking up has caused Winchester to raise their prices. In fact your misguided attempt to blame us instead of the new leftard rulers seems pretty low.

You don’t think it’s because people giving outrageous prices caused them to raise prices? I think they will keep raising the prices until they find the point that price affects sales.

I think when the smoke settles their are going to be a lot of hurt feelings. It’s not just ammo, try and buy the simplest of items used in reloading like a shell holder or priming tool. The country is in full blown insane mode and I’m betting everything goes up in prices and never comes back down. If you need ammo, powder, primers or bullets your your in trouble.

I use zero Winchester guns or ammo.

So how much ammo have the leftard rulers purchased?

The price of components and shipping is going up on the ammo manufacturers just as it is going up on reloaders. If they don't make a profit then their doors will be shuttered and no more ammo. It's not so much about hoarding as it is more new gun owners who need ammo for their new guns. Notice the price of fuel since the thief elect stole office.

Oil has jumped from 37 in Nov to 52 as of today.

Re: We knew it was coming - 01/19/21 01:10 PM

Not all cost for a manufacturer lays with just the components. All companies have seen significant increased cost in sanitizing their facility, additional labor cost running 24/7 to keep up with demand and countless other Covid cost. Does that justify 7%-15% increases in pricing....depends on the last time they took pricing.

We just received a 3-4% price increase from the majority of our suppliers. Not connected to the shooting/hunting world at all. Everything is going up.

Really disagree on that. Most of those people bought a handgun and a couple of boxes of ammo just to feel safer in their home, they're done.

The shortage is almost completely driven by a mad scramble to stock/hoard everything in sight. I know several reloaders that started buying primers last year and easily have 10,000 primers for 2-3 calibers. Going forward, if they shot as much as they shoot now, they'll die before they run out. And that's just a few people. I tangentially know at least 20-30 reloaders through this board, you don't think they haven't stocked up?

Nothing wrong with planning (hoarding as some call it). I would rather have it and not need it versus need it and not have it.

Re: We knew it was coming - 01/19/21 04:08 PM

Yep, all the suppliers have been increasing since last year. They have to meet demand. The good thing is they are closer to what some used market guys are so that's fine. Some in the used larket are selling ammo to make money. That's the interesting part, in a Hobby that all should work together in.

Finally got notified by website today that Hornady 95gr SST (243 win) was available. Just before I hit purchase, saw a price of $60 per box.....too much for me. Will switch to Stick and String before paying that price.

Come on fellas. The Fed printed 30% of the entire currency supply in the last 12 months. Biden just approved another $1.9 trillion. Inflation is coming everywhere. Been to the grocery store lately? Dollars value will continue to decline as they print more. This will be the good old days soon.

So you don't believe they are the reason people are stocking up? And have no clue what those people think we are in store for? Have you even looked at Biden's executive orders or his gun control wish list? Have you heard him call have the country domestic terrorists/white supremacists? You do know that Harris's vote gives the leftard scum a majority in the senate right? Do not take this lightly.

I went to Academy today and the only ammo they had was 28 gauge and 2 boxes of 30 carbine. I asked when they will have anything in stock. The clerk says be there at 5am on Monday or Thursday and get in line. Opens at 9 and all ammo will be sold by 10. Resellers are buying it to sell online and at gunshows at huge markups. We have all seen it already. And yes the dollar is going to tank.

Re: We knew it was coming - 01/25/21 01:21 PM

Y'all should've seen the line at Scheel's yesterday morning before it opened. Wrapped back around towards the customer service pick up. Once the doors opened, everyone piled in pretty quickly and I understood why. They had more ammo than I've seen in a while: .22, .223, 9mm, 40, .45, .380, .243 and several other calibers. You were limited to 2 boxes of each caliber but could buy as many different calibers as you wanted.

I'll say kudos to everyone that was filling up baskets.....no pushing, shoving and everyone was very respectful.

all the corporations in America love to do one thing and thats make as much profit as they can off of their stuff and the best way to do that is manufacture crisis and create shortages so they can gouge the public , why do you think they all lobby the corrupt washington law school reject crack monkeys ,also just to show how gullible alot of us are they even did it with toilet paper and do you think these ammo manufacturers are any less greedy . corporate america as a whole is just like the government and all for socialism and communism because they want total control on how much they pay employees and profits and that they are powerful enough to monopolize and run any start up companies coming into the free market out of business or buy them out . everyone in this country better get use to it because its only gonna get worse, because next you will be trading your bullets for food ,especially if you live in the cities and have no land to hunt on even if you do have hunting and land access the government will make sure they regulate your government approved hunting privileges to the elite few that can afford it ,,, welcome to all the suppressed peasants to the new United Socialist States of America . sooner or later if we dont unify and start using what bullets we left on the government they will gladly use their unlimited supply on us , and im just stating a fact not promoting a cough ,cough rebellion ,,for all of you politically correct lame [censored] fact checkers

Corporate types don't need to fabricate an ammo shortage.
We do it to ourselves. That, and all the new gun owners in the past year…

They'll never get it until it's too late. It may already be too late.

It's funny that all the guy's crying about the prices and shortages are the same guy's that didn't take time to stock up when everything was stacked deep on the shelves and easy to get.
I learned decades back to buy / stock up on stuff before I actually needed it.

This.

I've had several people ask me how long ammo will last. My reply "kept indoors, probably indefinitely".

Got some of Grandad's 1940's .45 ACP. I have little doubt it will still shoot.

Re: We knew it was coming - 02/18/21 04:50 PM

Txhillbilly nailed it, you need to stop by your local gun store once a week and get what you like, need, use or whatever, fifteen years you will have all kinds of factory ammo, reloading supplies for all your guns, i have no reason to complain or stand in line.

Yep ammo will keep a long time......
I shot two does and a hog last month with 30-06 ammunition reloaded in 1972. Used 03A3 made by Smith Corona in 1942( youngsters can ask or google who Smith Corona is) wink

I don't mind paying a little more as long as the increases are NOT politically driven.

Re: We knew it was coming - 02/18/21 08:34 PM

I was in pretty good shape for the firearms I owned before this mess started. Then I got my first AR in November. I have two .223 bolt guns so I had a decent stock of components and I have been able to add to my component stash here and there without feeling compelled to over pay. I have not shot the AR as much as I would if the components were still easy to replenish either. I am fortunate to have some good friends that have been generous to me. I have sympathy for those looking for ammo or components for new firearms and the young men and women just starting out that don’t yet have the disposable income or developed the contacts to maintain the stash of components a lot of us on here take for granted.

Our family started stocking up early in 2020 and will probably start earlier in future election cycles.

Shortages are predictable events. Why not stock up when things are available?

Early 2020 was 18 months too late for the previous cycle. One to two years into a current cycle regardless of who is in the White House is usually prime.

Re: We knew it was coming - 02/26/21 01:51 PM

The weakness and volatility of our supply chains have been exposed multiple times, but some folks just don't learn.

Anyone paying attention has already laid in food and general supplies while they are readily available. It's not too late until something happens.

Remember that solar can easily give you an indefinite supply of power for water wells and freezers if you want to do that. I am certainly not prepared for an apocalypse, but I can keep my family safe, comfortable, and fed for a good bit.

It is up to each of us to identify what and how much we need. Plan ahead so that you can help yourself and others.

Correct.

And it is a little late to be stocking up. The few items that I needed to stock up on during these times were definitely self inflicted. Mostly the result of not paying attention and assuming I had more of some calibers than I actually had. But in that clean up and discovery process I found excess in other calibers that pretty much evened it out.
