TTSX 165 and 168 in 300WSM

Has anyone here tried the 168TTSX in a 300WSM? A friend offered to load some for me but I saw this on their website FAQ..and how does a 308win have a longer magazine than a 300win mag? I want to try both to see which is more accurate out of my rifle but don't want him to waste his time if the 168 isn't even recommended for a short mag..This will be used for deer & nilgai..thanks

Is the 168-grain .30-caliber TSX the same as the 165-grain TSX? Is it really a match-grade hunting bullet?
These bullets have different ogive geometries. The 165-grain TSX incorporates a shorter tangent ogive in the nose profile. It’s designed for cartridges with short magazines such as the .300 WSM and .300 Win Mag. The 168-grain TSX BT has a secant ogive which lengthens the nose profile and has shown superb accuracy downrange. It offers the best of both worlds because it’s also a premium hunting bullet offering exceptional terminal performance. It is best suited for cartridges such as the .308 Winchester, .30-06 and .300 Weatherby.

No, they stated that incorrectly but the effect is the same. The COAL of those cartridges respective of their mag-lengths is what they're talking about, IMO. In a .308 you can set the 168 out without reaching mag-length. In the other two, you need a shorter bullet to avoid being constricted by COAL vs mag-length. The 165 is 1.295, the 168 is 1.315, and given the bullet profile you can probably set the 165 a touch deeper too to gain more room if necessary.

Edit-if you have the room and it shoots for you, there's no reason you can't load the 168 in either magnum.

I would consider a 165 grain nosler partition.

Lead core bullet will be shorter for the given weight alleviating some of your length issues/concerns. They are great on game and a highly respected hunting bullet.
