Cabelas becomes BPS

Cabelas becomes BPS - 12/21/18 07:13 PM

I was in my local Cabelas a couple of days ago and went to buy three pounds of Hodgdon powder. In the past, the powder has varied between about $27 to $31. The total for the three pounds, including tax, was $130 and change meaning they're working their way up to about $40/lb for powder, aka normal BPS pricing. Looks like I'll have to shift to all online buying. Cabelas was always more expensive than online but was convenient for one-off purchases and I don't mind paying a bit more for local access. Not 30% more though.

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

Ahhh, the illusion of choice shattered by another American consumer. So many companies and brands controlled by only a handful of monolithic corporations.

It's ok though, just keep spending money; its the new American Way. Nothing to see here.

I know it is nice to walk into store and purchase a pound of whatever we want but I just bought 20 lbs (5 lbs of 4 powders) for 23.53/lb total delivered to my front door. It is a problem sometimes when I use all of one brand up before I need to make another order but it sure is cheaper to make to larger orders even with haz mat plus shipping.

I also noticed cabelas raised their prices on powder and appears to only sell primers at 100 at a time vs 1000.

Academy sells powder cheaper than bass pro err Cabelas

also depends on what powder. They were selling H4350, $5.00 a pound higher than other powders.

Best thing to do is find someone who buys from Gene Sears, has it shipped to the Dallas Gun Club or Ft Worth, meet the truck and get the product.

Or a group buy

or, every once in a while Natchez, Brownells will have free shipping and no hazmat on $200 order

OR have a "guy"

I was disappointed in Cabelas last time I went. Not only were the prices high, but the had no stock on things like ammo boxes. It was a wasted trip.

Academy just started carrying powder recently. Hopefully, the selection will improve.

Southwest Ammo in downtown Mesquite is the best place in the metroplex for reloading components. His hours and parking are weird but the prices are good.
