308 Winchester great price at walmart - 12/30/17 04:51 AM

In TN and at the Mansfield Wal-Mart I picked up 4 boxes of Winchester 308 150gr PowerPoint for 13.97 a box. On Midway it's 19.97 a box. Had it marked clearance in TN and at Mansfield WM just had a different color sticker. Can't beat factory soft point for that price

That is a good price. No one talks about Power Points on forums because everyone likes super high BC bullets . I'm sure most of deer taken in the country are still taken with Core-Lokts, Power Points and Interlocks.

Ohhh...I know at least ONE poster here who couldn't care less about BC. Might be one or two others.

Some people would put the 308 in the same category as a FLINTLOCK. I've used it the last two years to kill several animals despite the SEVERE handicap that comes with it.

Amazing, isn't it?

I have an inherited 94 in .30-30 I've never killed anything with. I'm reluctant to shoot anything with it because I'm not sure it can kill anything anymore. They say it could in the old days, but I just don't see how. The BC is awful, and I found pictures of .30-30 ammo someone must have put on the internet back in the 90s...the case doesn't have a belt and that ridiculous long neck just couldn't work.

Should I just hang it on the wall beneath my .25-06?

I can't remember which one I've put more animals on the ground with this year, 7mm-08 or .308 Win (and out of an AR none-the-less)

I'm about to chunk all the current .308 brass in circulation, primer pockets are giving it up.

Your 25-06 is moving faster than my 257 Roberts! I have several rifles that launch round balls including 338 Federal, 350 Rem Mag & 9.3x62. One of those mid bores is going Naligai hunting sometime soon.

I do have two 6.5x55s and 7-08 so I have some BC credentials.

308 still works for killing things. One of my 308s is an FNAR. peep

Remember the "Top Shot" that had the USAF Sniper, George?

He had to shoot a stage with one of those. He said "you know, one of the first things I noticed about it is, well it sucks". roflmao

River Rider, whats wrong with the 3030? There are alot of hunters still use this old and stable cartridge. My dad used his 32 spc. (Same ballistics as 3030) for a very longtime untill he passed, i know have it and use it, which has harvested some deer.

Not a damn thing---I was being facetious. I WILL blood it one day, but due to a flurry of acquisitions over the last several years it's going to have to wait. It's number 7 in line.

Don't bad mouth the 30-30.
It's 100 times better for a long range cartridge than my 338 edge.

30-30 does get more energy out of a grain of powder though.

I would venture to guess at least 75% if not more of the deer killed in Arkansas are killed w/ a 30-30, when i lived there it seemed like literally everyone had one.
