300 Win Mag loads with 180 Accubonds - 11/27/17 03:02 PM

I have been using RL-22 out of the Rem. 700 / 26 inch 1:10 twist barrel with RL_22 and 180 Accubonds for deer sized game. I'll be hunting nilgai soon and those critters are pretty tough.
As of now I am running out of RL-22 and I like this powder due to high velocity, 3,160 fps, but its not temp stable and seeking to use Hodgdon's line of powders or other temp stable powders. Powders I have on hand is H4831, H4831SC and H1000. What are you guys running with those powders?

Yeah, I wouldn't use the Accubond on Nilgai, myself. It will work but there are better bullets, like the Barnes TTSX. I took the Accubond to Africa and got 5 recovered bullets. I did a follow-up shot on a Blue Wildebeest, to the neck, and the spinal column stopped it.

That load was 74 grains of IMR4831.

R22 and H4831 are near identical in burn rate. 4831 would be fine. H1000 is a little slower burning, and could yield good velocity as well. Either will work well.

Have you considered Re23? I've never used it, but if it's as good as Re26 then it's sure to be a winner.

Never tried the RL-23 or the newer Reloaders.

According to QL, Re26 is THE top powder for velocity potential with that combo. Looks perfect, "on paper," in fact. It doesn't really steal the show, though. There are lots of powders---the usual suspects, that are not very far behind at all.

I had thought Re23 would be a better choice than Re26 in terms of velocity potential, but that does not seem to be the case.
