6.5 Grendel Ammo - 09/21/17 01:24 AM

What is the difference in the Hornady sst and black? My daughter is shooting an ar 6.5 Grendel and we have been shooting the sst and saw academy has the black. Trying to figure out which would be better for her for deer.

Thanks - Jay

The SST is the hunting bullet, and the Black ammo has the new ELD-M bullet. Either bullet would work in that round.

I like the SSTs out of my Grendels. AR and a new Howa.

Boonee, are you shooting 123s or 129s?

I can report one customer shooting a 6.5 Grendel in an AR platform, shooting 123 gr SST Hornady ammo. It shot extremely well, and we ran it out to 800 yards with no trouble.

There was spin drift at 600 yards and beyond, but that is not a concern for most people.

Federal has 4 loads listed including 120gr fusion and 130gr Berger hybrid.

Hornady 123gr 6.5 bullets were designed for the Grendel.

Use whatever is the most accurate. They’ll both kill fine. My Grendel likes the Hornady target stuff better than the hunting stuff.

RiverRider I shoot factory Hornady 123s, and hand loaded 123s as well as 120 grain Pro Hunters. Only shot factory ammo in the Howa.
