Brass forming question

can I take a piece of once fired 308 brass and turn it into a 338 federal brass? if so what steps do I need to do?

Yup. Run the .308 brass through your .338 Federal die. If you can, anneal the necks afterwards.

+1. I like to size up or down in about .020" increments. So, going from .308" to .338" (.030"), I would size it up with an 8mm (.323") expander ball, and then a .338" expander. It makes it easier on the brass and keeps run out down.

That's a good idea. Expander balls can be changed easily and they're not expensive.

Yes. I run a Redding T7 turret press, and set up 2 dies. I'll expand in one, then rotate the turret over 1 position to the next die. Return the back to original die, and do it again. I like the turret presses for this reason, as you can do multiple tasks in one step.

Yup they have you rolling right with the 2 steps, the Hornady tapered expander balls work well for such task. Lube the inside of the case neck well to make it easier.

338 Federal is a nice thumper of critters inside 300 yards.
