454 casull load help. 300 xtp/ h110 - 04/29/14 01:48 AM

Has anyone had experiences using 300xtp and H110 powder?
I have the powder weights from my reloading book, but need help in seating depth.
The 300 XTP has two canlure rings. My ask is what are some of your seating depths and powder loads using this bullet and powder.
Which canlure ring do you use; with what powder load of h110?

Thanks!

Are you shooting in a revolver? The length of the cylinder should determine which groove to use. H110 likes to be loaded at around 95 percent of the space available under the base of the bullet when seated to the groove you choose. You will need good neck tension with a firm crimp for a consistent powder burn. cheers

Yes I am shooting out of a redhawk Alaskan. Yes I want to see what powder loadings people are using when the bullet is seated to the first groove and second grove. Thanks for the feedback! On neck tension.

Hodgdon's website,http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/

They only list one load for the 300gr. bullet with H 110 and it is a Freedom Arms bullet not a XTP.
The listed over-all-length is: 1.775" It may vary with your bullet. I would load the XTP in the cannelure that brings you closest to this length.

Load to the deepest bullet seating cannelure ring unless powder compression is a problem, then seat to the lower cannelure ring.

I use the same bullet seated to the ring closest to the business end of the bullet. But I usually use 2400 I "perceive" it to be a little less snappy on the wrist. I shoot an Alaskan and a 7.5 in SRH. Just use a strong roll crimp and you will be fine.

This is probably my favorite load, good power and not real brutal on the shooter:

Caliber 454
Bullet Laser Cast 360gr
Powder 2400 20gr
Ruger SRH Alaskan
Case Starline
COL 1.759
Avg Vel 1110 fps

Out of a 7.5 in SRH it's right around 1230 fps.
