Arrows

What kind of arrows are you guys shooting or would you recommend for compounds? Trying to get an idea of how deep I'll fall into this rabbit hole of getting a new set up.

I’d start out with the black eagle outlaws. Great all around arrow especially for price.

Bobo has a good suggestion and the Cabela's Carbon arrows are another good choice they are Easton arrows with the Cabela's name on them. For economic arrows them and the blackouts are quite a bit of arrow for the $

Thanks for the suggestions. I currently have a set of the Blackouts and they've been great. But I'm getting a new bow and stepping up in draw weight, so I'm guessing that the spine is going to need to be stiffer than what I currently have. My plan was once I got the cash all saved up, I was going to head to On Target out in Canton and get everything taken care of all at once. So I'm not opposed to buying something from them, which would exclude the Blackouts Or Cabela's. I may go that route in the end, but was curious about what you fellas like or dislike.

The Easton Axis are a smaller diameter shaft and a bit stiffer. They are actually kind of heavy for their size as mine are 9.2 grain/in. I have used them for years and each still shoots to point-of-aim. Penetration on game has been excellent and wear on the shaft and my drop-away rest have been minimal. I got a new bow this year and bought a dozen arrows from the same shop. These are Gold Tip arrows (400). First, I have weighed them and there is a variation of up to 4.2 grains between different arrows. Second, the label (wrap) on the shaft has streak marks on it from the drop-away rest even though the rest is coasted with moleskin type stuff. Third, I have actually replaced the mole skin wrap on the rest (QAD) and it needs to be replaced again. Fourth, the Gold Tip arrows have been spin-tested but a few always group just a bit outside of the others - so I have marked them as such. Last, the Gold Tips shatter much easier than the Axis. I have accidentally shot through a worn-out bag target and clipped a tree. Busted shaft. I also hit the ground and busted a shaft. Similar things have happened to the Axis over the 13-years I've had them and none have broke. When deer fall on the Gold Tip (if the arrow is in it at all) they break every time. I have had just 2 Axis stay in a deer that I can recall and neither broke, I'm still shooting them. BTW the Gold Tips are 8.2 grains/in and the Axis and Gold Tips have the same 2" Blazer vanes. I also have some Cabelas Extreme 400's that have feathers. These have been pretty durable and remain accurate after over 12-years. I have broke a few but I haven't shot them as much. I got these to see if noise or velocity was better and determined there was hardly any difference. In my crossbows I have shot Easton and Black Eagle (Zombie Slayers .001). The BEZS are way more accurate at longer ranges with much tighter groups. I have got 3 deer where the arrow stayed in and in all 3 cases the shaft broke when the deer fell on it. There are a lot of brands and styles and many much newer than my old arrows. Based on accuracy and durability for my money I will reinvest in another bath of Axis arrows for the bow, but if I can't locate any I would be willing to try BEZS solely because of the consistent accuracy I see from my crossbow.

For better arrows, I shot Easton ACC for years and it is still a good arrow. The Axis I really like as well and you can use either al or brass inserts for up to 75gr insert weight giving more FOC than many of the other arrows. I like the Axis traditional arrows better than any of the other arrows I have tried.

Got some Goldtip pierce for the compound and the more I shoot them the more i like them. Micro diameter arrow and with my setup 29 inch arrow from a 58lb bow penetration is not a problem at all, 11 inches average in a rhienhart target, actually deeper than the 330fps crossbow.

Deepest arrow penetration will come from a few things, weight/speed are big parts but an arrow that is flying straight with no wobble will give you deeper penetration, Just another reason to have you bow tuned properly for you and your arow rsetup.

Went in today and got everything set up. Ended up going with the Easton Axis. I’m gonna go ahead and just say they’re good luck bc my second round of dialing in my sight and I shot my first Robin Hood. Unfortunately I wasted 2 arrows but pretty neat for my first one ever while dialing in a brand new bow!

Congrats, Axis are good arrows, Robinhoods are cool until they become costly. Usually the second arrow is ok if you want to pull it out and separate them
