What Traditional Broadhead Do You Use.

Let's see what all the traditional bow hunters on here have been using for broadheads. I have been using the same Zwickey Delta 2-blade 135gr glue on broadheads for a very long time. They seem to match well with the Tapered Port Orford Cedar Arrow Shafts that I use from 3 Rivers Archery. I shoot off the shelf with a strip of polar fleece on it. The Delta's seem to hold an edge pretty well and can take a beating lol. One friend of mine has been using 3-blade Woodsman glue on broadheads for awhile now and he gets good flight out of them with his long bow. I have 2 gray and one white feather on my arrows but they look all white in the pic. What is everybody else using for a traditional broadhead.

I'm using 175 grain heads. A couple of Grizstick models, left bevel.

150gr Magnus Stingers on Easton Axis 400 and 500 spines depending on the bow the Axis also have the 75gr brass inserts. Both bows are Bear Kodiak Magnum with 16 strand fast flight Flemish twist string with Bear hair shelf and side plate.

Nice to hear from more traditional shooters on here. I was thinking that the 135gr Delta’s were a little too light in weight but the guy at Hunter’s Rendezvous swore up and down that they would work great for my set up. He was right and I get good flight and penetration from them. I also have 3 color fast flight flemish strings on my Samick Red Stag T/D Recurves. On the main bow that I built, I use a fast flight string that my buddy made for me. I have a string jig but I haven’t used it in forever lol. Easier to just buy them these days. My wife shoots a 42# Seven Meadows Archery Horse Bow so I bought a bunch of those Gold Tip Warrior 35#-55# 500 spine shafts and fletched them up with 4” helical feathers for her but she seems to like the 3 River’s Archery pre-finished wood shafts more and shoots better with them. So I will either use them on hogs or give them to my buddies kids to use. They are pretty good arrows for the money and you can pick them up for cheap money when they go on sale. But I like shooting the tapered wood shafts for my set ups.

Simmons Tigersharks for the most part. I also use some Zephyrs and Kustom King Trailmakers.

I shot nothing but Zwickeys growing up but they got cheaper and started coming apart on hitting bone or missed shots would ruin them. I hit a bear in the shoulder and the Zwickey split in 2. If you look at the pics of them on here you can see that there are 3 welds on each side of the blade. We would look for the older ones at garage sales etc that had like 6 welds per side, they were a better metal and better built broadhead. I switched to Steel force, super strong, most durable I have found but find my quiver has a mismatched bunch of broadheads these days.

I am new to trad bows. Myself and a few other THF guys are headed to south Texas in a couple of weeks. It will be my first attempt at hogs and javis with my recurve. I have been trying out several. Zwickey, Magnus, NAPs. I was impressed with the 3 blade NAP, 150 grain in accuracy and penetration. I tested 125 grain up to 160 grain.

Like we mentioned on TBH, penetration is the key. I haven't shot trad for very long either and have only take three deer and no pigs. But any of those heads should give you good penetration if you are shooting more than 40 pounds. But if you hit them like I did my last two doe then it won't matter. They will be DRT. The spine does inhibit penetration though.

Oh and I am currently shooting Woodsman elite 175s and Grizstick 175 grain single bevel heads. However I have a new arrow set up I'm working on with my Widow that will let me shoot a 100 grain head so the window is bigger for those.
