Who's ready for Saturday (opening Day!) - 09/27/17 06:03 PM
Everything is ready for opening day except ... I have not shot my crossbow yet. I still have 3 more days to be sure that it is still "on site."
Should have a NE wind for our south Texas opener. Down side is ... too many acorns.

I'm so excited I have been rubbing my forehead on every tree in the neighbor hood and my wife is going to kill me if I don't stop peeing on the furniture.....

Yep.
My first time to bow hunt. 50 years old and figured that I wanna give it a go. Crossbow is sighted and ready.

When the sun comes up Saturday morning, I'll be sitting 18' up a tree, waiting and ready. In the words of Red in Shawshank Redemption:
"I find I'm so excited that I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head."
My stand bag is packed, my crossbow sited. Hunting license already in the pocket of the outfit I'll be wearing opening morning.
If I could leave right now, I'd be at the lease already. Sadly, can't leave until Friday around noon. I don't know if I'll be able to sleep Friday night.

I've got a good one tied to a tree!
Hope he's still there when I get to the stand Saturday morning!

I've been chasing a big sika and Saturday is looking like the first day I'll be able to sit. I have him coming into a set in the AM, I see him in the evenings quite a ways away from his morning haunts.
have not seen any whitetails of notable mention

I've got to work
It's OK though. I drew the postcard archery hunt at Granger this year. I'll be able to hunt whenever from Oct 14 to the end of regular deer season. Just a couple more weeks.

Taking off work at noon Friday. Wish I could be shooting more but I seem to have come down with a bad case of tendonitis in my elbow. I'm still shooting straight though. Imagine I will have plenty of pigs to shoot. And who knows, a big buck may just step out.

I am ready! Did some pruning around my 3 bow stands....shot my bow at 20, 30 and finally 50 yards. I don't practice throughout the year, amazing how technology has made compounds so easy to shoot and super accurate. So after shooting probably 100 arrows on both primary/backup bow, I sure felt it in the back muscles two days later. Prospects...not so good, I swore I would never take another 8pt unless he was 1 of 1. Unfortunately that's the only thing on trail cams this summer. I do have some nice culls on the ranch so I'll likely fill the freezer.

I'm so ready, but won't be able to hunt until the evening on Saturday. My wife booked a vet visit for my dog on Saturday morning.
The decision is now, what to take to the blind - bow or xbow? I committed to the xbow last season, and ended up having a bad shot on my target buck. I think I'll go with bow as I've been practicing with that regularly. I'm hoping I see the super wide 11pt show up during shooting light! He's been coming in right after dark. Hopefully i'll see where he is staging and I'll ambush him the next night.
Good luck to everyone and stay safe!

I'm really looking forward to Saturday--got a new Mission Charge and a nice 8 point on camera. Hope to get to him before all the neighbors go after him in rifle season. Actually I'd be glad to shoot a pig Saturday as a warm-up to a trip to Michigan later in October!

I shoot 3-d throughout the year, but its been july since I last shot. This week we've had alot of rain here and I've tried to shoot 6 arrows a night right at last light. I'll be after this guy as my first archery deer ever. I've been bowhunting the past few years but nothing as promising the place Im on now.
