Finally got to hunt . . .

Finally got to hunt . . . - 11/14/15 02:15 PM

Between work, family stuff, bad weather and illness I have only had 5 or 6 sits in the stand so far. Right now I'm in stand, bow in hand. 52 degrees. Wind moderate but swirling from SW to E and is making it a little tough I'm afraid. But I've got two pigs down so far and had a young 6 and a young 8 feed for a while. Bigger bucks are locked down with does so unless I just get lucky I don't expect much there but I need to put a couple doe in the cooler this weekend.

Tear them up Bubba, I only got to hunt yesterday evening and this morning. I had a sow and babies come in this morning but too dark to get a bead on them... I'm still looking for my first this season, I've been like you to, work and wife in the hospital three weeks.

Good luck bro.

Thanx. Put a doe on the ground in the rain this evening. It always amazes me how small hill country does are compared to north Texas. And Missouri has so much bigger deer. I will post up picks when I get a chance.

Good luck to you as well. I have surgery scheduled for Thursday on my right hand and my left hand 3 weeks later so I need to get my kill on now for winter meat. So far it's been working.

Lots of doe and fawns this morning. Very active sit. Three year old eight and a nice four year old ten. Moons up during the day so I'm going to go back out around 1:30 and sit til dark.

Just got home from hunting 8 days in a row. I saw more bucks away from the feeder stands from noon to 4pm. Saw 7 legal bucks all week but only had a shot at one and he was a 3.5 year old 8 point. Had an absolute brute come in and stand under my tree around 3:30 one day but never gave me a shot.

We had a windy and cold Saturday and a freezing Sunday. However Friday evening and Saturday had slow deer movement due to the wind and the bigger bucks being locked up with doe. One member managed a mid 120s 10 point on Friday evening then Saturday the flood gates opened on members with four year old plus management 8 points offering up shots. I got in my pop up to avoid sitting in the wind and this 4yo management buck showed up just as the sun went down. We have two body size deer on the place and the shape of his body said 4 but his short body length threw me off. I sent some pics to a member who has been on the place several years, whom I respect his knowledge of the deer herd we hunt, and he said easily four years old. So I waited for him to give me a straight broad side shot and put a solid double lung shot and he died within 60 yards of the spot he was standing. Although the blood trail was profuse I didn't even look at it until the next day as I heard him drop and do the death flop. So as I go into surgery tomorrow I can do it with some relief that one of my buck tags is filled.
