question about arrows

I am new to bow hunting' and have a few questions. I have seen several people show how fast their bow is with different weight arrows. When they say a 308gr arrow and 398gr arrow my question is are these numbers with a point or broad head?

Yes. The lightest you want to shoot is 5 grains per inch. so on a 60lb draw weight the lightest arrow you should use is 300gr.

5 gpi seems a little light. Arrows are something you should do alot of homework on. Not only do you want the correct spine but your FOC has alot to do with it. Some people will tell you they like light arrows for speed where others want a heavier arrow for penetration. With a light arrow you will feel the bow more and a heavier arrow will take some vibration from the bow. You could write a book just on arrows. Get some arrows between 7-9 gpi and to start you out, then start experimenting with other arrows. Find out what you/your bow likes.

Yes 5 gpi is very light but it is also the min you can safely shoot.

This is my 40th year hunting with recurves. I have always opted for 9 to 10 grains per pound of bow weight including the weight of the broad head or field point. Not fancy but it has worked consistently for a long time.

I am also looking at arrows, but I cannot see the the grain weight on the arrows. I know the broadheads say the weight in the package, but what about the arrows

Usually you will see something to the affect of 8.3gpi or 10.2gpi on the arrow stating grains per inch then you multiply for your arrow length.
