A little PO'd at myself - 12/19/11 05:53 PM
I gotta vent this out for a minute.
This weekend was my first time out hunting with my bow. I'm proficient at 25 yards, tight groups on the mark, figured now was a good time to try.
So my friend and I get to the grounds and decide to stalk the are a bit, get a lay of the land. We come stalking through some cedar trees and come across an old foot path with tracks on it from the night before, decide to get a look around and look for ambush points. The path splits and we take either side through some brush. I take the narrow path with my bow, he takes the wider path to my left about 15 yards. I get 20 yards down the path and hear something to my left near some trees. Expecting it to be him, I just glance to the left and am stopped dead at the sight of 8 boars moving into a shaded area not 10 yards to my left. My friend followed the path farther left out of sight, they must have heard him and moved off his position. 3 little ones about 75 lbs, 3 good ones about 130, and two 200 pounders all stopping at the same time looking right at me. I quickly draw my bow and they scatter, the little ones hearded right at me and the others ducked into the brush. Well I took a quick shot at one of the little ones and missed, clearly wasn't lined up. They ran past me and into the bushes behind me. I called back my friend to head back, took off after the little ones tracks, followed them into a creek and lost their trail. Lost my arrow as well.
That was the only contact we had all day Saturday. Still kicking myself a bit, mostly because I should have left the bow at the stand and used my 357 sidearm which I never thought to use during the stalk. Stupid rookie mistake.
