I just had something crazy happen. I had 2 does under me eating. They look over their shoulder and then run off so I am thinking here he comes! I look over and there is a cougar walking across the field! I have been hunting this land for 4 years now and never even saw sign of a cougar! Kind of scary!

Been in the stand since about an hour before light. Had the 11 and 10 point that I posted pics of a week ago skirt the brush to my north and something spooked them. They headed South flaggin. Haven't seen anything since then and that was about an hour ago. O yea, and my feeder didn't kick... Figures.

On the bright side, at least I saw some deer this morning and remembered all my stuff. DoubleDrop14 is about 800 yards to my south and hasn't seen anything but dove, plus he forgot his copenhagen in the truck. He's been texting me for the past 45 minutes to come pick him up. I bet he's a maaaAad little man.

Re: ***Sat October 1st, Official Live Hunt thread*** - 10/01/11 05:09 PM

Well we just had lunch. Gonna drink a few cold cervezas and head back out in the afternoon. Neighbor shot a doe but we couldnt find it. He literally had 3 little bitty hairs on his rage and we are fairly certain he just nicked it. Turns out he shot his bow a couple minutes ago and it was all the sudden shooting 10 inches low! Looking foward to this evening. This is the best deer movement we have seen on opening day in the last 5 years. Probably gonna take a doe tonight if the shot presents it self.

Same for me. Thismorning was slow for us but just from the cabin yesterday evening we saw over 10 deer so I'm thinking (hoping) the night hunt is going to be better.

Yeah sat there for 3 1/2 hrs and seen nothing but one coon. Went walking and seen 5. Went to town to watch football and drink some beer. No other bowhunters with me. I like evening hunting better so we will see. Need some meat and then worry about horns later. But if horns come i wont be complaining.

Figured out y it didn't kick this morning...the dude were having keep the feeders full accidently put the pull tab/string in there and when I went to investigate it was all wound around the spinner plate and motor shaft. Hope he comes back for an evening snack. He stood about 70 yards from me this morning and stared at the feeder like "ummmm, its not gonna give me corn today?" The he got pissed and left with his runnin buddy, who I believe is the buck behind him in this pic. He'd b a heck of a first bow buck.

Maybe but Maybe not... it was limping and the pic really doesnt do it justice at all. The first shot this morning basically took the top half of its spine off. I thought we did the right thing and the hunter from this morning got some closure. It was def a great opening day.

Re: ***Sat October 1st, Official Live Hunt thread*** - 10/02/11 03:15 AM

Rage was the shot this morning... two blade just cut the heck out of her. Picture really doesnt do her wound justice. How she didnt drop after the first shot im clueless.

Re: ***Sat October 1st, Official Live Hunt thread*** - 10/02/11 03:16 AM

I know this sounds crazy but we have been using these for 3 years now out of our high dollar bows.... I will never shoot any other broad head again.

Posted By: 7mag

Re: ***Sat October 1st, Official Live Hunt thread*** - 10/02/11 03:34 AM

So to clarify, did u use the Torrid blade or rage on this doe??

Posted By: CleerCreekDC

Re: ***Sat October 1st, Official Live Hunt thread*** - 10/02/11 03:37 AM

Sorry let me clarify. We didnt shoot this deer this morning. The neighbor shot it with a 2 blade rage and hit the deer high. We then shot it this evening with the torid and smoked it. (and obvoisly much better shot placement)

The rage did the spine damage.

THe torid is what finished it off this evening

Posted By: Csddarden

Re: ***Sat October 1st, Official Live Hunt thread*** - 10/02/11 05:28 AM

Well I was using NAP RazorBloods and it was a frickin 25 yard shot. I hope I find the arrow in the morning and I hope it was a clean miss. On the other hand, if I hit this beast where the pin was, Imma be hella happy. I have pics of him on camera prior to the shot and he's over 140.

1asnt the 11 we had on camera btw. Thanks god cuz he was only 3.5. We believe it wad a 6x6 on cam last year nic-bamed bam. I just pray I didn't wound this dear.

Re: ***Sat October 1st, Official Live Hunt thread*** - 10/03/11 01:47 PM

In the stand in montalba. Jumped 2 deer and 3 herd of hogs coming in tuis morning. Unfortunate late start. No response from rattling attempts thus far, thought I heard a snort wheeze in a thicket to my 6 o clock a while ago but nothing has materialized. Lots of squirrels and birds in the pine needles making noise so it's hard to localize sounds. Looking for one of the bigger 8's or a doe to come in...will settle for a few hogs as well. Took a large sow at 48 yards after a long dramatic open field stalk last night. Complete pass through and dead in 50-60 yards. The bowtech, kill light, and goldtip arrow/ Magnus stinger buzzcut combo prove themselves worthy again...may try to post a pic later if possible. Anyone else out there?

Great Saturday morning for me had a big doe at 16 yds, full draw for the first time, and there was another doe way behind her that caught my movement and a second too soon they scattered. I guess its all part of the learning process. Ended up seeing 30 deer by 11 just driving around...
