To sell or not to sell .22 match rifle.

To sell or not to sell .22 match rifle. - 02/28/23 07:14 PM

I may be going "all in" on a competition shotgun and making it y game. I bought this Alamo built .22 for F-Class and the TYL matches but as usual am losing interest. Hooked up with the three brothers I grew up with as a kid and they are really enjoying Sporting Clays and Preserve bird hunting, mainly Tower Pheasant shoots. I have my Benelli Ethos Sporting, which is fine, but a nice O/U might be in my future.

The .22 started out as a Begara B-14R, match. Alamo rechambered it to use the SK Match and Center-X. Gun has a Harrell Tuner, TT Diamond trigger, bedded in the stock. 3 Magazines. I took it out and fondled it. I really love it but if I found someone who wanted it more than me, I might let it go. This dang Athlon is one sweet scope too Here are some pictures.

This is just an opinion finding Thread, NOT a classified add.

Buzz I hate to ask, but how much without scope and rings? I'm in the process of buying 2 PSA Jakls but I might move my straight pull VQ rifle for this one.

You can PM me the price so not to get the thread moved to classifieds.

If the tower shoots are at Hidden Lakes, you’ll probably want both a double of some kind and an auto. The 300 bird shoots are a great place to use a nicer s/s or o/u, as you aren’t likely to get them beat up in the process. For the 500 bird shoots, you’ve got to be really quick on the reload or you’ll miss shooting opportunities with a double. The 500 and bigger shoots are where the autos really shine. If you go with a double, strongly consider buying a real shooting bag, as it will make your life much easier. Also, no chokes less than modified, and full or im are much better.

Buzz, if you ever think you might want to shoot 22 comps again I think I'd keep it. You're too close to Valley View not to be tempted to go out and play! Plus, 22's are so much damn fun.

I usually do two or three shoots a year out there. This year, my trip to Namibia got in the way, but I’ll be back next season.

Pigeon shoots are also a ton of fun. Most are kept on the down low because of the anti’s, but a good pigeon shoot is a literal blast.

SXS and O/U only for those shoots however.

Put it back in the safe for your next itch. When fall comes around, you'll want to shoot .22 matches.

You sell it, in 6 months or a year you'll be pestering us about a .22lr bolt action match rifle.

You set hundred dollar bills on fire almost monthly.

Stop selling to buy…keep it, wait 2-3 months and you will have saved enough to buy outright.

You're going to have to find 3-4 more of those match 22 rifles to fund your K80 roflmao

The Athlon scope is very sweet. I think it retails for around $1200

On the K80, @14lbs, I couldn't hold it up for 100 rounds. crying

Buzz, if you had Alzheimer's you'd save a lot of money. Wake up every morning and open the safe to a bunch of guns you didn't know you had. No way to lose interest enough to sell.

He has a process he always follows. It's a compulsive behavior.

1. Ask advice on the forum on what to buy
2. Ignore advice
3. Buy what he wants
4. Anxiously await his new dream gun
5. Post a new thread telling us it's coming and will post pics later that day
6. Actually post pictures 3 days later
7. Ask for load advice
8. Ignore advice
9. Shoot the gun (optional)
10. Post a thread asking should he sell the gun (usually 3 to 6 months after purchase)
11. Ignore advice
12 List gun in classifieds at high price
13. Sell at a lower price and lose money
14 Back to step 1

Well…I guess if you have to slum it and not get the K80; you could settle for the
Perazzi MX2000S. And below that the DT11. Anything else might be trash.

Maybe you should just go shoot the tyl or long range match to see how much you enjoy it that would tell you whether to sell or not.. we will be holding some 22 ELR matches in the near future. If you like shooting the 500 yard matches you will absolutely love these you will get to shoot 10 times the amount of rounds and the people are just as fun. But then what do I know .

Even if you choose not to sell, by all means attend a tower shoot with your buds. Most people use an auto, so you won’t be out of place with whatever you take. Pull the plug, and pop in a full choke and you’ll be ready to go. #5 shot is best, but 6 and 4 also work if you can’t find 5 (hint: Scheels). Spring for quality hunting ammo; leave the promo crap and your spare 7 1/2 boxes at home, and you’ll have more fun. Don’t expect it to be easy.
