properly hanging steel - 07/20/22 11:51 AM

I shot my kids rifle at some ar500 last weekend and had 2 failures. The bolt is ripping through the strap. Should I use fender washer to increase surface area?

Is the strap on the back side of the target?

What's the strap made of?

I've never had this happen.

I don't know what's going on. Fire hose, back of the target, 1/2" Grade 8 bolts, standard 1/2" washer. No trouble.

I'm no doctor (sounds like you might need to discuss with a real one) but it sounds like your hole is too big eek2

Guess I'll try a smaller hole and bigger washer. Can grade 8 withstand a direct hit? Now that I think about it, I don't recall the hardware still being attached. Maybe I had cheap bolts in there. Cheap...like that shot Judd took.

I had made one about 20 years ago hung it up with some 5/8 rebar
Heated and bent into a hook needles to say its still hanging up and makes a good metallic bang when hit.
